On the same basis I made that firing Sumlin to hire him at A&M would make this a better team.

I watched what he did rebuilding SMU. Y'all can laugh at the record all you want but they were damn near a D2 team when June left them. It really was that bad. On top of that their admin and boosters are cheap as hell. My uncle was constantly complaining that Morris wouldn't shut up about them dragging their feet on an indoor playing facility (he did this w/June too) as if wanting SMU to build something that over 80 DFW area high schools now have is an over the top request. shite, their players lounger that sits in their stadium is about the same size of an efficiency apartment and is so out of date they still have XBox 360s hooked up. Even with June lighting a torch to SMU/Texas HS relations and their unwillingness to improve facilities their talent level is light years better now than when he showed up.

He also was great as an OC at Clemson. He was the reason they got Waston. Dabo still credits him for getting them to next level. Just b/c they didn't win a natty while he was still there doesn't mean he had no influence on their success.

Combine his offensive acumen w/his deep ties to Texas HS coaches and we are going to see them start to do very well recruiting this state.

Every time one of you ignorantly calls him a Sumlin clone I just have to shake my head and laugh. I don't even know why we would have to go over why that is an incredibly lazy and extremely stupid take b/c his career has been gone over so many times here already.

Downvote me if you want but I'll say it again. If you call him a Sumlin clone you are ignorant.

I don't think he's a Sumlin clone but you acting like he's a slam dunk is laughable. He is extremely unproven

On what basis do you make that?

The same basis that some folks around here use to call him Sumlin 2.0 .

Just to get a feel for what you think he's capable of, what kind of SEC/overall win totals are you expecting out of Morris at Arkansas the first 3-4 years?

The things he's got going for him are

1) His SEC East draw is as easy as it gets out the gate
2018 is Missouri/Vanderbilt
2019 is Missouri/Kentucky
2020 is Missouri/Tennessee

2) They don't have any Power 5 teams out of conference the first 2 years, but they still have one game left to be scheduled

3) The two Mississippi schools could flop with new coaches

The offense should be fine but I'm skeptical his teams will have the defense to ever do anything notable.

If he recruits very well (**cough cough** boosters buy him the right players), his ceiling is as high as Hugh Freeze.

Who said he had no influence on their success? I would also say hiring Venables was just as/more important to their success than Morris.

He might recruit a little better, but I don't think 5/4-star players are going to be committing to Arkansas because he's buddy-buddy with Texas HS coaches

You're right. Sumlin was a lot more proven when we hired him than Aggie Chad is right now. Hell, Sumlin is probably going to get the Arizona job even after being fired.

Chaz could be the real deal and he could be the best recruiter there ever was, but there is a huge risk with him because he's still largely unproven and had very little of a sample size at SMU. The fact that he is hiring Chavis after Chief's last few years in a spread-offense program speaks volumes. Chad could very easily be getting in over his head in the SEC West just like Sumlin was.

I'm not assuming anything, and believe it or not he and I share several close friends/family and my uncle in-law is one of his close friends and to some degree an old mentor; would have been fine if we missed on our first target and got Chaz as the HC.

BUT....

As has been the case before, you don't know jack shite friend. You don't know anything about his coaching style/methods or his recruiting philosophy. And the fact that your pussy is quivering over Aggie Chad out-recruiting us when we are spending $6-$10 million a year in assistants alone is absurd. Grow up, Peter Pan.

I'm with you on this. Morris just made the SECWest an even tougher gauntlet to get through.

id probably grade on a curve here cause theres something to say about sumlin taking over 2 programs that someone else built and having success with 2 stud QBs, while chad built his own program. everything ive heard/read is that morris is a tireless worker and recruiter and we know sumlins reputation for work ethic. i dont know if hes better, but i agree that saying chad is sumlin2.0 is pretty shortsighted.

apparently Chad has shown that people here can only do basic addition/subtraction and have no idea how to do any kind of critical thinking.

You're right, my bad. Point is the same, though. That ASU fiasco broke him and he just stopped trying. The last half season he was there, SMU finished last in the NCAA in scoring offense, which should be impossible for a coach with Jones' offensive knowledge.
