Sources tell us to expect Morris to target Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables
Oh that's right you're striving to become what CGSC was to Sumlin, carry on

Morris has yet to show he can field a top-100 defense. He'd be Sumlin 2.0
You're forgetting that the budget he had for assistants wasn't good and he had to focus his recruiting efforts in offense since it is SMU.

Why in the world would Venables take another DC position?
Especially since he is being considered for the Tennessee job.

Wanted some thoughts on Chad Morris
If he works out, we will call him home.

My cousin played for him at Elysian Fields and said he is a hell of a guy and coach. Very hands on and involved now as he was then. That’s second hand so take it for what it’s worth.

Before y'all got Jimbo, most people were really down on Morris because most figured he wouldn't say no to A&M. I was in that group as well. I think this is the best situation to get him. If he does eventually want to go home, it is going to be after much success at Arkansas.

We flushed with cash son . We can buyout Jimbo after 6 years, give Morris a raise, and still have a shite ton left over to give him his own Aggy boots.

That's not a position I would want to put my University in. It's all about perception and recruits notice every move.
It's the reason why Baylor didn't hire Morris. It was rumored he wanted an "Aggy clause", which they absolutely did not want to add.
I honestly would have been fine with Morris at A&M. His offensive style has been proven to get the best of Saban from time to time.

I don't think Arkansas needs to be concerned much about Morris' commitment to the Hogs, even with his A&M ties. Jimbo is going to be coaching at A&M for the foreseeable future.
Morris is currently the highest paid non-Power 5 head coach, making $2 million and change. I bet Arkansas will pay him around $4 million. They will have plenty of money left over to attract and pay top dollar for assistant coaches.

You might have a point if the other option wasn't Kiffin. You were going to have the issue of jumping ship either way. Even more so I would argue with Kiffin. As I said, he will leave us in a great spot if he is leaving for A&M. Just got to make sure you continue to make smart hires.

Agreed, which is why I think its the best situation for it. If A&M had kept Sumlin, this would be totally different.

In his introductory press conference after being named Head Football Coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks, Chad Morris vowed that he would hire the best defensive coordinator in college football.
LINK
He didn't identify this coach by name. Which kind of got me wondering just who that could possibly be. Is there any consensus out there on who the best DC in college football is?
Some people are taking this to mean Brent Venables at Clemson. I don't know if he will be the Arkansas DC or not. But I've never thought of him as being head and shoulders above the other defensive coaches out there.
Gonna have to watch who this mystery coach is. Chad not exactly trying to manage expectations there in Arkansas.

I think he is just mainly using a figure of speech. I believe he is going to try and get Venables but most don't think that is very likely. I think he just means he is going to get the best possible choice we can grab. Most Arkansas are making guesses outside of Venables.

He probably/likely meant Brent Venables. And it would make sense for Arkansas. Venables has strong recruiting ties to Texas and has done a good job building defenses at both Oklahoma and Clemson. He isn't scared to lie to recruits and will likely start to mislead them in day 1.
I wonder if Chad will allow him to lie to recruits again about A&M being racist? Either way, Morris was already bad news for Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. Adding Venables probably guarantees Okie Lite's run will soon be over and Oklahoma's dominance will end.
I wish Jimbo would pursue Venables, but I doubt he leaves Clemson for anything other than Oklahoma/Arkansas.

My concern is that he’ll be pissed we passed him over for Jimbo.

Glad you are not the AD ,Jimbo is a proven coach while Morris is not.
Jimbo won national championship as coordinator and head coach
while
Morris just like Herman & Strong won national championship as coordinators but not as head coaches in case of Strong & Herman so far , sure they can do well in less conferences just like what Sumlin did with Houston and shite in bed in big conferences just like Strong, Herman and Sumlin

Morris has not won a NC as a coordinator. He left Clemson after 2014, before the NC appearance in 2015 and NC win in 2016.
