Not true. Bama would have played Nebraska in the bowl game for the title. Penn St was stuck in the Rose.
No they wouldnt have. The bowl coalition was in place in 1994. Under the bowl coalition, the traditional bowls maintained their ties with theior respective conference (SEC- Sugar, Big 8- Orande, SWC- Cotton, Pac 10/Big 10- Rose). The number one team was gauraunteed only to play the highest seeded at large team. Had Bama won, we would have gone to the sugar, with Nebraska and Penn State going to the Orange and Rose bowls respectively as the winner of their conference.

Basically every time we run the damn bubble screen. Some poor player is going to lose their head if they call that in the SEC.

A screen pass to the middle of field was the absolute WORST possible call to make in that situation.
1. It wasn't long enough to pick up a first down
2. It was a high percentage completion play, which means the clock kept ticking.
3. It was to the middle of the field - not in a position where Ridley could run out of bounds.
I had forgotten about that one, but yea that was even dumber than the screen pass at the end of the Ole Miss game that year. How did they not learn their lesson after the Ole Miss debacle.

Auburn vs LSU Rivalry Wiki
Auburn hadn't crossed the 50 or made a first down in the second half. Why did Lyn Amedee call any frincking passes?

1994
Auburn was on a 14-game winning streak and ranked #11 in nation under coach Terry Bowden when LSU traveled to Auburn in 1994, but it was the Bengal Tigers who led 23-9 entering the fourth quarter. LSU quarterback Jamie Howard threw five fourth quarter interceptions - three returned for touchdowns - as Auburn extended their winning streak to 15 games with a 30-26 win. Auburn, with star running back Stephen Davis, was held to a mere 165 total yards, and Howard received death threats after the loss.

What would have been the fall out had that catch not been made?
quote:Probably not 4 seconds, but at least 2. Still a gutsy call as an interception or sack are legitimate potential outcomes. It was actually pretty good coverage IIRC just an almost perfect throw and a great catch. When I went back and looked at it a year or so ago, it wasn't as crazy of a call as I remembered it being.
4 seconds left on the clock after he caught it. If he drops it....FG attempt.

2009 Ole Miss, spiking the ball with one second left.

Yeah, people over exaggerate on that play.. There would have been 3+ seconds to kick a field goal if he dropped it

try calling 2 passes when we were in FG range. the 1st pass JJ almost gets sacked. so hey, let's call another one so he CAN get sacked.

According to Wikipedia, the SEC, Big 8, and SWC champs would have been released from their bowl if a title opportunity arose.
quote:
Under the agreement, bowl bids would be extended to the five member conference champions plus five at-large teams. The at-large teams would come from a pool of the five member conferences' runners-up, the runner-up of the Pac-10, the SEC's third-place team (since the SEC started playing a championship game in the 1992 season; and its second-place team was tied to the Florida Citrus Bowl) and Notre Dame. The Orange, Sugar, Cotton and Fiesta Bowls were "Tier 1 Bowls" under the Coalition agreement, and the Gator and John Hancock Sun were "Tier 2 Bowls." The Orange, Sugar and Cotton bowls retained their long-standing agreements to invite the Big 8, SEC and SWC champs, respectively. However, the SEC, Big 8 and SWC champs would be released to play in another bowl if it was necessary to force a "title game." This did not happen in any of the three years, as either the Big East or ACC champion qualified for the championship in those years.

7-4-2 defense vs. LSU in '10. The refs noticed...

#1 LSU vs. Arkansas, 3rd and 8 in OT, Hogs down 35-28. Nutt called a wheel to Hillis on a 3rd and 10 four plays earlier and it was deflected by one of LSU's stud DBs (Highsmith I think). Calls the same play again and I thought it would be picked for sure, costing us the game. Instead it was probably Casey Dick's most perfect throw of his career.

Miles has obviously surprised us with his playcalling on a number of occasions, but the only true "WTF" moments on play calls for me both happened before Miles and both against Auburn...
1994: After Jamie Howard had thrown three interceptions, two returned for TDs in the fourth quarter, and with only about 3 minutes left in the game, with our defense totally shutting Auburn down, leading 26-23, facing third and medium distance, Lynn Amedee dialed up another pass...intercepted and returned for the winning TD by Auburn (Auburn's 4th defensive TD of the game, and the 4th of 6 interceptions Howard would throw in that game). Final total offensive yards: LSU 407, Auburn 165. Final score: Auburn 30, LSU 26.
1997: Cecil Collins had run for 237 yards on 27 carries in the game, while Rondell Mealy had added another 144 on just 14 carries. To say the least, we were absolutely dominating them with our running game. On 3rd and 2 around midfield, mid-4th quarter, leading 28-24, we have Herb Tyler (who was 5 of 20 for 100 yards and two INTs at that point) roll out and fire a woefully inaccurate pass to the sideline. Then, on 4th and 2, we punt. Auburn drives for the winning TD with 30 seconds left after LSU DBs drop three interceptions on the drive. Final total rushing yards: LSU 377, Auburn 53. Final score: Auburn 31, LSU 28.
How in the hell can you lose two games in which you A) outgain the other team 407-165 and B) outrush the other team 377-53?
Those were great games!!

AU had a fumble for a TD in the 1st qtr of that 94 LSU game, IIRC.
