The CFP playoff committee must have come up with these rankings. They make no sense.
3-9 Vanderbilt from last year is #1 on the list, but 2-10 Arkansas ,who went winless in the conference, is sitting at #15?
At least Vanderbilt put up 38 points on eventual national champion LSU.

State football from 2001 to 2008 was a nightmare. The crazy thing is they won at least 7 games four years in a row from 1997-2000 (including a West title and a 10 win season) and had a preseason Top 20 team going into 2001. But it absolutely dropped off a cliff for Jackie and then Croom was just a really bad SEC football coach.
Ron Zook losing to State in 2004 might be the worst conference loss in SEC history. That team lost to Maine, got blown out by UAB and 2-9 Vandy, and then somehow beat freaking Florida. God bless you, Jerious Norwood.
I personally think Arkansas the last two years might have somehow been worse though. The fact that Joe Moorhead scored 50+ on them two years in a row is unbelievable. The 2011 Ole Miss team (Nutt's last year) was shockingly bad too. I remember being pissed at Mullen for only winning that year's Egg Bowl 31-3, State could've won that game by 60 if they wanted to, and that was a State team that went 2-6 in conference play.

Once Orgeron's players cycled out at Oxford it was clear that Nutt was up shite creek. Remember them losing to Jacksonville State in 2010? Still nearly pantsed Less in BR though

I've said it before, but Omar Conner and Jerious Norwood could've been lethal with a more imaginative offensive staff. Conner got beat to a pulp in Croom's Wess Coast offense

Do this again without Vanderbilt, because somehow you left off the 2012 Auburn team.

There is no way there are 15 teams worse than 2012 Auburn

I think 2012 Auburn's deal is they were an average/bad team for most of the first half of the season. Then the 2nd half of the season they became something unspeakable.

I've often wondered what things would've been like if State had hired Mullen after Sherrill instead of after Croom. It would've been viewed as a really outside the box hire at the time considering that he was only the QB coach at Utah at that point, but yeah, Omar and Norwood could've been a lot of fun in a Mullen offense.
Croom's offense was painful to watch. State never scored 40 points a single time under Croom, and they played an FCS team every year he was there. They had a seven or eight game stretch one year (2005 I think?) where they never scored more than 16 points. And I'll never forget the Spring Game that went to overtime time tied at 0.

1) 2006 Alabama 0-7
2) 2005 Alabama 0-2
3) 2007 Alabama 2-6
2) 2005 Alabama 0-2
3) 2007 Alabama 2-6

I had forgotten about 2012 Auburn, but yeah they were horrible. Probably should've started the season 0-8, they were extremely lucky to escape with a win against ULM. I was at the State-Auburn game the week before that and Kiehl Frazier looked about as bad as I've ever seen an SEC quarterback look.

Their 3 game stretch vs A&M, UGA and Bama (with NMSU and AAMU in-between) had to be one of the worst of all time.
vs A&M - lost by 42
vs UGA - lost by 38
@ Bama - lost by 49
Though, to be fair, those were probably 3 of the 5 best teams in America by the time Auburn played them

I was so proud of Ty and happy that Chaggie was gone for sure that I couldn't really feel bad about the loss.
The North Texas game was the low point. That was just sad all around. Chad looked like he was gonna cry when that dude ran back the kick off.

Maine was the low point for him. Easily. That is as feeble as any SEC offense has ever looked in a game.

Sadly I saw his offenses look that bad again on multiple occasions. The 2008 Auburn and Ole Miss games were BRUTAL. It was for sure the worst offensive system I've ever seen in this league. He never once had a team in the Top 100 in total offense, and that includes a team that went 8-5 and won four conference games in 2007.

I was at the A&M and UGA games and people were heading for the exits after the first quarter at both games. 63-21 and 38-0 make those games look closer than they were. It could have been 100-0 if Sumlin and Richt wanted.
