I have heard that lawrence kansas is an awesome place.
It is if you are a BB Coach.

He's good but his fanbase at IU outright hated him, to an extreme degree. Probably not his fault, he's just kind of socially awkward and weird, and the results had tapered off a bit. But for Georgia he should do well.
I'd imagine it will help him to not have the spotlight on his program 100% of the time as it was at Indiana. He'll have much less pressure/expectations at UGA.

Not the best recruiter but a quirky coach who's fun to laugh at.

meh hire, he underachieved at Indiana.

Hard to think a guy who couldn’t win at Indiana will win at Georgia. That logic makes no sense. None.

Lawrence is a decent college town but nothing special.

People are acting like we had the choice between a Lamborghini and a Ferrari and chose a Kia.
I'd love to know who we could've hired better.
Crean makes the tourney and wins a game he is already an upgrade...

I don't know what Tom Crean will do at UGA, but he took over a disaster of a program at Indiana that was hit with NCAA sanctions. He won the Big 10 twice and was Big 10 Coach of the Year. In the last 10 years, he won the Big 10 conference more than Tom Izzo, who everyone thinks is the cat's meow. He also went to three Sweet 16s in the last 6 years(IU had only been to one in the previous 17). To say he didn't win at Indiana who hasn't been anywhere near the same program they used to be in a long time, is wrong.
UGA is not Duke, Kentucky, or Kansas. Who do you expect us to hire better than Crean? Anyone that would be better than Crean would cost us maybe twice what we offered Crean, and would likely use us as a stepping stone ala Tubby Smith. Crean might even use us as a stepping stone. So who do you think we should hire?

Matta would have been better. Meh hire.

If we had hired Matta, you'd say he was a "meh" hire and claimed Crean was better. Matta can't even hardly walk.

Nothing you say ever makes sense.
Crean won the Big 10 twice and went to the sweet 16 3x.

Big boosters caused problems for Crean at IU. UGA is a football school and just don't see that happening in Athens.

I had forgotten how awful Indiana was when Crean took over. He really helped stabilize them over time. He beat Kentucky in the 2003 Elite 8, so now I see why fans here dislike him. We heard the same thing from them last year when Crean was rumored for Missouri job.

True! Expectations at UGA are nowhere near what they are at IU. Crean won't be under constant spotlight. If he can compete for an occasional SEC title and be in the NCAA more than not, I think UGA and it's boosters will be happy

During his 18-year coaching career Crean has more NCAA tournament wins (11) than Georgia does (seven) in its entire history.
