Maybe he wanted to try and get LSU relevant as opposed to irrelevant.?

The melt by Bama fans on here when Kiffin beats them next season will be historic. I’m all for it.

By the time our game comes around, beating LSU will be all they have left to look forward to.

They may come into the game with 3-4 losses.

Well, watching Bama kick LSU's teeth in in tiger stadium is certainly something to look forward to. Its a tradition.

I think Saban was just giving good mentorship to a former assistant.

However, I feel like LSU fans are not considering the other possibility: a University of Alabama Athletics Department employee told Lane to go to LSU because it was better for UA. I mean, he already told LSU to hire Houston Nutt when he left in 2004. Why y'all so gassed up about his HC hiring advice?

Maybe because Alabama is a brand that sells itself. LSU not so much.

I've always gotten the feeling that LSU was the one that Saban let get away.
That has been well documented. Had the dolphins not gave saban everything he would have never left.

Curious, to say the least.
Not really.
Look at all the time, energy and money he's put into charitable causes and projects for the less fortunate. You clowns should be sending him a nice thank you card.

Not as stupid as a lsu fan talking shite about Deboer, who lsu has never beaten and has been outscored by an avg of 31-6. Sit this one out, corn-diggity-dog.

Why is Saban still an employee at the University of Alabama if he loves LSU so much?
A paycheck I guess but that is a good question.

What makes anyone think Saban didn’t have a hand in picking his replacement?

Your are arguing that LSU let an employee of the University of Alabama decide who LSU should hire as their football coach.

Think that through.

A man as rich as Saban is not working merely for the small amount (relatively speaking) that he is now being paid

I'm embarrassed for you.

We all wonder what might have been.

Heck, even the Saban's have said they could've had the same success at LSU.

Sabans retirement was sudden, caught the university off guard and was not the best of timing. Its not like Byrne had months to do a search, take his time and explore all options. Nick was more than likely not in any frame of mind to jump in and help. He was processing the reality of his retirement and his future. The hiring process moved very fast.

But it doesn't matter if Nick helped, didnt help, advised Lane or didnt. It doesn't change anybody's reality. Its a "what if" conversation which falls into the same category as "If my aunt had nuts she'd be my uncle."
