Why is 24 team playoff the end of college football?

Division 3 is a 40 team playoff
Division 2 is 32 team
FCS is 24 team
The bowl system has always been the outlier. This is bringing the highest level of cfb into the norm

It’s not. Lots of softness on display over this.

College football has always had the best regular season in sports. Once that is watered down then where is the excitement?

Because the powers that be think they should always keep it to themselves.

Blue bloods decrying the loss of their unique and special status.

Bingo. If they’re that good it’s going to equal out anyway. At least some of the mid tier teams actually have a chance versus being in a league where they are seemingly doomed from the start. Especially since nobody cares about regular bowl games anymore.

Actually it has nothing to do with blue bloods. People may love the NFL but it is one of the most boring leagues if not the most boring league in all of the major sports. It certainly has one of the worst playoff systems in all of sports if it’s not the worst outright. A team with a losing record can make the playoffs by winning its division but I think division winners get a bye also. It’s a boring and bland system. The NFL is really a boring and bland league. If this country just wasn’t crazy in love with the game of football the NFL would be one of the worst leagues to follow in all of sports.

It's not the end of college football but it's a bad move for SEC football revenue.
Sankey gets punked by the B1G, yet again.

That UGA-Bama game was just a regular game in a 24 team playoff and even the 12 team playoff. Just hyped up by ESPN.

It isn't. NIL was. College Football has been a professional minor league ever since.

To be honest, it’s usually Alabama and a couple of others rotating at the top, so it’s kind of only fun for a few teams.

The NFL has half the league in the playoffs. 24 teams is 17% of FBS. Restricting it to a mere 8% was never going to last. Most of you would like it back at 2%.

There are only a handful of teams every year that has a legit chance of winning the title. I don’t want to lose the best regular season in sports so Wake Forest, Northwestern, or some other bottom feeders can say they made the playoff in any given year.

Sure, but the B1G + SEC is only like 34 teams combined. And there is some fluff in both of those conferences.
The rest is non-competitive, outside of a good team or two from the ACC.

It waters down the preseason rankings, which are the biggest scam in sports.

Exactly. On the bright side, no YouTube TV monthly subscription until the playoffs start. 8 teams would have been gold, and 12 was just enough to watch the regular season. Highlights, and maybe extended ones, are good enough for me.
Was lucky to witness cfb in its prime.

I think it will be just fine. Regular season games still matter greatly. The playoff will only enhance that.
You still have to win to make the playoff. A loss could be the difference between hosting a playoff game or going on the road. Just because more teams will get in, does not diminish the Regular Season at all. If anything it makes it more important as more teams will have opportunities to move up and make the playoff…..which means more games will be more meaningful.

This is the dumbest argument. The same number of games will matter. You’re just trading a top 10 match up mattering for 20 vs 23 mattering.

It’s no less retarded than a 12 team playoff honestly. I’d rather go back to the old school BCS but if we have to do this homo playoff thing I really don’t see why 24 is worse than 12. In some ways it’s better.
