Because he was the mastermind of the 2020 national championship. Anyone that can turn Mac Jones into a first round draft pick is a miracle worker.
I think Saban recruiting the OL and skill people around the QB that were in Sark's arsenal may have had something to do with the "mastermind" thing.
But you could be right

Herman... the problem was defense.
Strong was a top DC in the country for awhile at UF and had some stout defenses. Goes to Texas and worst ever.
I guess Herman's coordinators were bad. On paper they seem average.
Before those Manny Diaz had the Bulldogs as a top defensive unit in the nation. Goes to Texas and gets thrown under the bus as UT's defense becomes horrible. Leaves Texas and goes to La Tech. leads nations in Turnovers. Anotehr Stint at State, top 10 defense in the nation. Goes to Miami, becomes a Broyles nominee then leads the nation in total defense.
I guess the common denominator in all those cases is Texas. Texas is just a culture of being soft or so it appears.

Strong was and is a terrible coach. That dude needs to give Teddy Bridgewater a huge chunk of that money he made. Strong wasn’t set up to fail. Dude was a lousy coach period. South Florida can attest to this.
Not only was Strong a terrible coach, but he also hated being in the spotlight. At Louisville he really did post-game pressers or interviews and sent his assistants to do most of them. Texas isn't just a go and perform and you'll be accepted kind of program. You have to have some sort of personality and charisma in addition to some degree of success to last there

Everyone doesn’t.

Manny Diaz, I have no idea what happened with him. Former players have said that there was a big culture difference between Muschamp and Diaz, Diaz obviously being softer. Greg Robinson stepped in and made the defense decent after he got fired though.
I think the answer is just that the stress of the Texas job makes people make bad decisions. So uhh, good luck Sark

Saban thought enough of him to hire him…twice… and turn game-day reins over to him. Pete Carroll apparently highly respects him. So….
I could value the actions of Saban and Carroll, …. or i could substitute my flawed personal opinion in conjunction with the opinions of a lot of chat board geniuses.
Let me see…Saban and Carroll? … or …. Chat board geniuses? Hummmmmm boy, it is a hard choice…
Those people didn't hire him to be a HC.

As far as calling plays, play designs, and getting the ball to the best athletes, Sark is the best I have ever seen in T-town. That being said he had Saban recruits. Now that he has to depend on his recruiting abilities, we will se just how good he really is.

Charlie wasn’t calling the defense though.. but you make some decent points.. time will tell.
But even Nick Saban and Alabama give up monster points now.. some offenses are just that good. So I guess the answer is what LSU & Bama have done.. just outscore them..

The common denominator is the SEC, ACC and whoever was having a field day cherry picking Dline and Oline recruits out of Texas when the Big 12 got raided of the 4 teams. Before that there was a big wall around Texas recruiting and Mack and Stoops owned it.
And also Charlie was a moron and so were his assistant coaches...The SEC didn't even play offense when Charlie was a Coordinator at Florida, at least not offenses like there were all throughout the Big 12...Three yards and a cloud of dust doesn't count as offense...Diaz was also terrible as a D coordinator against running QB's and spread offenses.
Herman did not leave the cupboard near as bare as Charlie did; especially, on the Dline so hopefully Sark can roll with it...

True and it will trend that way because of wide open offenses and not being able to hit WR and QB's.
I';ll cherry pick this one game because I watched it but the UT/OU game in 2019, BJ Foster maybe, #25 safety was absolutely scared to hit somebody. Even I was throwing shite at the TV. 5* DB and wouldn;t come up and hit to save his life.

New sip here, glad to be part of this conference and get some real rivalries reignited. Looking forward to it, whip-assings and all.
Foster will lay the wood pretty good, so I think that was probably an outlier. He may have been suspended previously for targeting or some such and was trigger shy. The reason we've sucked is coaching decisions and player decisions during the Herman era. It's been like watching the movie idiocracy unfold on the grid iron for the past 4 years. There's no doubt, we've got the dumbassery on lock down. That 3rd & 17 blitz from Bolivia vs LSU...Jesus Christ...and on my mother's birthday.

Listen, no one knows if he will get Texas back to the top, but everyone should know that he will make significant improvements compared to Herman and Strong. Why? Because instead of bringing his buds from outside the power 5 to be his assistants, he’s bringing multiple assistants with great experience from P5 schools, with proven developmental abilities.
Simple.
Simple.

Who thinks this? They struggle in the big12, and now are moving to a real conference.

quote:He was able to land a #1 ranked recruiting class at USC but he is off to a terrible start at Texas in recruiting so far. I don’t know if it’s because Texas is behind on NIL or what but they are not getting the usual first year coach bump and it’s a bit surprising given Sark’s pretty good history in recruiting. Something definitely worth monitoring.

"Everyone" is basically just Longhorns fans and they're still in the honeymoon period where the new coach can do no wrong.

What was it about Strong you hated? He was set up to fail from the start because of the boosters
Wouldn’t have made a difference otherwise. See USF tenure.

Or just maybe…..Austin has gotten so friggin Portlandesque weird that no normal people really want to live there anymore. If they do end up there the safe space culture ruins any football mentality that may have existed.
It won’t matter who their coach is. Steve Wooster wouldn’t recognize that weirdscape.

This year, what selling points does he have to draw recruits to Texas? A recruit going to Texas faces unknown years playing Kansas State… a recruit going to A&M, LSU, et Al. is going to play Alabama.
The days of recruiting by saying “you should be honored to be asked to play for Texas” are gone. But I think you will be happy with how he does with what he gets.
Honestly… I don’t think Texas fans quite recognize how much star power their brand had lost. Time will tell…

Texas is focusing too much on who the coach is. It’s not the coach who holds them back. It’s all the admins who allow the boosters to have their hands in the cookie jar.
They need to get the cronyism out and get everyone on the same page. Until then, no coach will save them and they’ll continue to be underachieving.
