Because he was the mastermind of the 2020 national championship. Anyone that can turn Mac Jones into a first round draft pick is a miracle worker.
First, check Bama's O-line, WR's and RB. You and I coulda been all SEC.
Second, he's always done well as OC (at least at the college level). It's his HC experience that is in question.

I feel like this:
* Strong --> boosters got in the way and he wasn't ready to deal with them.
* Herman --> boosters got in the way and he'll never be ready to deal with them.
* Sark --> boosters might get in the way and he might be able to deal with them.
Strong hired a G5 level staff. Strong was known for his defense and they were absolutely horrible. Some of the worst Texas defenses EVER.
Herman hired a G5 level staff. Once he was forced to can all those guys, I thought that we were a lot better last year. We averaged plenty of points.. the problem was defense.
Sark hired a great staff.
Offense - Sark will be the OC and he is elite if he can focus on it. We scored 42 points a game last year.. offense was not the problem.
Defense - PK will be the DC. He was great as the DC at Washington from 2014-2019, including holding Kiffen & Alabama to 17 offensive points in the playoffs. He also never gave up more than 17 points to Leach at WSU. The assistants under PK have a lot of good P5 experience.
To answer the OP Question.. I am excited about Sark, because I know that he can be an elite OC.. and he made some great hires on both sides of the ball. Guys with a great track record making adjustments, developing players & putting guys into the league. TBD if they can also recruit well. Winning helps with that though..

I get what you are saying, but he was hired as an offensive coordinator not as a head coach in waiting.

quote:well he was a disaster that lost to Kansas and was shut out by a terrible Iowa state team (after which he said “this isn’t an embarrassment”) and most of his losses weren’t even close. That was one huge thing. With Herman the losses were frustrating but we were never out of any game. Strings teams constantly got their doors blown off.
What was it about Strong you hated?
quote:a lot of the booster narrative is fair (albeit we hear about it ad nauseam from different fanbases who are not as close to the situation). However strong was given every opportunity possible. The school president had to get on a flight just to convince Tulsa’s coordinator to take the job. I’ll admit some of the comments from boosters were not a good look considering they had all of their eggs in the saban basket, but still: he had no more of a disadvantage than any other Texas coach
He was set up to fail from the start because of the boosters

quote:lol this is so desperate and could not be further from the truth. Nobody claimed to “know” anything about strong or the other two and every fanbase has to get excited over a new coach.
When Strong came in you all were so excited and knew he would be the one, just like you did with Herman, and now with Sark.

I used to subscribe to Orange Bloods to enjoy the delusion and the melts and I know what tu fans were saying about Strong.

Man was a straight up retard . Had a chance to actually meet him before his first season and I passed it up cause I knew he'd be gone in a few years and didn't want to be disingenuous to him.

I'm just looking forward to the melts once they realize he's Herman 2.0.

Define everyone. I would think only a handful think he will.

Herman wasn't a bad football coach and I would say he didn't get fired because of his on the field performance. I'm not sure what would have saved him after how he fricked up the Eyes of Texas stuff.

Charlie was an excellent assistant that got promoted one chair above his ability. He made millions regardless.

It's the honey moon period. That will all come to an abrupt end about midway through the 2022 football season.

I dont think anyone knows if Sark can turn it around. He seems to have hired a decent staff and not just old buddies and tagalongs, so that is a great first move.
If he can get the Texas High School coaches and Boosters that matter on his side like Mack did, he will be golden...

Honestly? He's got a decent shot.
The issue I can see him having is that he's going to go from Texas being the second banana to Oklahoma in football to being middle of the pack in the SEC. At best.
Even though Texas was vastly underwhelming their name gave them cache over the likes of Okie State (even thought Okie State has had a better program for a few years). They were able to get along based on name value.
Now they are in a conference with not only Oklahoma, but Alabama, Georgia, LSU (shaky but Coach O has an obscene amount of talent to squander), Florida, and the guaranteed where did they come from really good SEC program for that year. To make matters worse the shiny new penny might be in state rival Texas A&M.
Basically they are the revamped Tennessee Vols. Tremendous pedigree, not so tremendous results in the last few years.
Can they turn it around? Sure. They can walk out their front door and trip over 5 star players. The big question, to me, is can they be patient enough when they don't have instant success? A&M had to wait for a national title winning coach to flee his job because half the campus was hosing down his wife because he couldn't... ah... satisfy her needs. Even then it took some time.

If he treated the boosters there the same way he did in Louisville, he probably had another mistress or two there. That being said, I have no idea why Texas thought Strong would be a good fit, considering they love the dog and pony show. Strong hates the cameras and media attention so much that he basically refused to do post-game interviews at Louisville. He literally sent assistant coaches to do it, because he just didn't want to talk to the press or to the radio shows/call-ins. Funny thing is, that's with a fan base that basically adored him... can you imagine how miserable he would have been with the Texas fans?

Sark gonna get arrested for public intoxication on Dickson Street in Fayetteville after they lose to us this year.
