Ole Miss should have never stopped playing slow Dixie

Best band song ever

In the 90s the Ole Miss band director was either a UGA grad or really tight with the UGA band director and one year they did a mix of Tara's theme by the UGA band and Slow Dixie by the Ole Miss band after the game it was great.

I agree but these students were to blame on that. They gave them chance after chance to stop yelling TSWRA and they just couldn’t do it.

They have some very watered down battle of the hymn they started paying this year, nothing close to the same.

I was a student when that happened.

The tradition existed before I enrolled.

Why do we catch the blame for continuing a tradition we didn't start? Why is it entirely our fault? We didn't come up with it or make it popular? It was popular when we got on campus.

Furthermore, when you threaten college kids at a known party school to attempt to coerce them from doing something, what do you think they're going to do? Comply? lolz

Just let it die. It doesn't concern you. Colonel isn't coming back. We should have stuck with no mascot or the bear. Everything seems to be going fine so who GAF?

At least Ackbar was a commander of the rebel alliance so the mascot made some sense

That's what made it so great. They could have had an awesome opening clip on the jumbotron before games. I doubt George Lucas/Disney would have gone along with it though.

LSU got their name from a Confederate division called the Louisiana Tigers. I always thought that was bad arse. The SEC has/ had the best names

There are plenty of folks who would argue that the changes made were enough to change perspective. It's been altered to the extent that it's in the court of debate. Not so with the one that was flying over Mississippi's state capital.

Really?? C'mon man, this was Georgia thumbing their noses at the haters...

Conversely Mississippi holds a referendum that 65% of the state opposed completely and came up with this monstrosity:

They were originally the "Mississippi Flood" which is amazing and should be brought back. Though may make for some awkward games that occur immediately after hurricanes.

Fo sho. When the state was redesigning the flag, they retained a vexillologist (a flag expert) to provide some design tips focusing on simplicity and ease of recognition. The committee redesigning the flag ignored almost every one of them

ecause that is literally still the name of the team and has been since the 1930s. A lot of people can’t differentiate between a mascot and team names.

Good point. I have never looked at it like that.

72% of Mississippians voted for the new state flag in November 2020.

That will be 20 years from now when the bible belt erodes enough for liberal activists to push to have that removed as well.
