I'm not sure that was the flag of the confederacy. I think but not sure is that the flag of the armies of Northern Virginia was the flag of the confederacy.
I read somewhere that while the confederate flag was indeed for bad intentions, Lee wanted to use it to differentiate flags from the North and the South as many flags were similar. I could be wrong.

There were many flags used by the Confederacy, the individual confederate states, and other armies and groups within the same.

I’ve got a few connections in the music department and I saw some of the emails they got. They were pretty rough. Also had an incident in the Grove the next week where they got booed and cussed at.
Point being, there was some backlash from some of the lower quality fans (which everyone has including State).
