Damn, hadn't thought of that. It would be fun

Wouldn't it be great if all eight of these teams could be in the playoff? Who would win? This is the kind of year that would produce the intense interest in a football playoff that the basketball tournament produces every year. It's time to expand the playoff.

Miami has silenced the critics IMO. They should be #1.

The display that Miami put on in the 1st half against ND is the best football I've seen this year.

Always be wary of single game impressions. Ohio State obliterated a ranked Michigan State team just one week after being thoroughly embarrassed by Iowa. Miami also had a lot of close calls against teams that had no business being within sniffing distance of a playoff team. If we're only talking "the last game they played", then AU, Wisconsin and Miami. If we're talking "the last 2-3 games they played", then AU and that might be it. That doesn't erase the two losses or the lackluster game against Mercer, but the AU team playing right now probably doesn't have those setbacks.

That Miami team that played Saturday night would be hard to play for any other team in the nation.

No doubt. Miami obviously took that game as a personal challenge to their program. Could Richt get them up like that 2-3 more times this year? Doubtful

Miami’s defense looks pretty fricking lights out right now

Watching those DEs chase down everything ND tried to run took me back 25 years. Thanks for one nostalgic night, Miami

The teams that are playing the best right now IMHO are (in no certain order)

Top Four teams PLAYING the best right NOW:
Alabama
Auburn
Oklahoma
Miami

Just beyond the top tier:
Georgia
Wisconsin

Just beyond the 2nd tier:
UCF
Ohio St

What we think we know according to conventional logic:

* Alabama-Auburn-Georgia - only one of these will go
* Miami-Clemson - only one of these will go
* It is doubtful that any two loss team can make it other than Auburn. Even Penn St-Mich-Ohio St-ND. I think these plus Washington, Okla St, USC, and TCU have eliminated themselves.
* Ohio St is capable of beating anybody when they are "on". They are capable of losing to anybody when they are "off".
* I don't see a realistic way for UCF to make it to the top 4 based on schedule strength and conference ties... but they have a very solid team and should finish undefeated.

Predicted playoff four based mostly on rankings
Alabama
Oklahoma
Miami
Wisconsin

Possible alternatives:
* plug in Georgia or Auburn instead of Alabama if either win the SEC
* plug in Clemson instead of Miami if they win the ACC
* plug in a one loss Georgia, Alabama, or Miami if Wisconsin loses the B1G championship
* plug in a one loss Georgia, Alabama, Miami, or Wisconsin if Oklahoma loses the Big12 championship
* plug in UCF if at least THREE of the following combinations happen (it won't, but I guess it is statistically possible, and they'd better hope for FOUR of these to happen to be sure):
** Alabama loses to Mercer and Auburn
** Georgia loses to Kentucky and Georgia Tech
** Auburn loses to ULM, beats Bama, SEC championship irrelevant
** Oklahoma loses at Kansas or Big12 championship decisively
** Miami loses to any two of Virginia, Pitt, ACC championship game
** Clemson loses any two of The Citadel, S. Carolina, ACC championship game
** Ohio St loses to either Illinois or Michigan
** Penn St loses to either Nebraska or Maryland
* Ohio St. has a very narrow path but they must win out decisively and hope for a lot of this same help that UCF needs

Win out and you are IN teams:
Alabama
Auburn
Oklahoma
Georgia
Clemson
Miami
Wisconsin
if any of these loses, plus any other team not listed, needs lots of help and luck

Anyway, just some random thoughts so JMHO.

True. They looked like the pre-ACC Canes Saturday night. So did their crowd.

As much as I dislike them I still would have to go with Clemson, top to bottom they are still the best team out there other than maybe a healthy Alabama.

I would be very happy if South Carolina proves me wrong about that in a couple of weeks. If they did and Clemson then went on to beat Miami it could open the door for a second SEC team pending other results.

Clemson is a non hurt QB away from being undefeated and number 1, which I think most people are choosing to forget

Doesn't even get consideration. They lost. Ohio State won with their third string QB a few years ago. They lost and that is all that matters. if injuries entered into it FSU would still be in the discussion.

Oklahoma looks dangerous. I know their defense sucks but they look amazing on offense and I am not sure who can keep up with them scoring

90% chance it happens if AU wins out.

I’ll say Miami. That was a statement game on Saturday.

OU not far off but their D is going to cost them against elite OOC teams I’m guessing.

They don't have to keep up with them scoring. I think Alabama or Auburn's defense could shut down Oklahoma. Auburn, actually might have a better shot at stopping Oklahoma's offense with Alabama's injuries at LB.

That said, and I know this will make Auburn fans upset, it will take a miracle for a 2 loss team to get in. Even if you beat Alabama and Georgia again.

This is going to be looked at as an opportunity to throw a non P5 team a bone and put an undefeated UCF team in the playoff. If not, then if Clemson beats Miami in their conference championship game, they might send two ACC teams, with a one loss Clemson and 1 loss Miami.

Ok. no use arguing. if Auburn wins out (And I think there is a decent chance of that) then we will find out.
