Bama’s current squad would have a horrendous time against a QB like Mayfield. Throw in the fact that his favorite target is a massive TE in Mark Andrews. They would eat Bama alive in the middle of the field.

Bama would be able to move the ball on a pedestrian OU defense but they wouldn’t stop Mayfield.

I agree. Alabama is slap beat up at LB, so Mayfield would not get the pressure Alabama would normally bring. if he did, he might be able to escape it with very little LB backup.

They wouldn't have to totally stop Mayfield, though. Alabama would run the ball down Oklahoma's throat, and Mayfield would not get nearly as many opportunities. Against Oklahoma's defense, Alabama would score on most possessions. Oklahoma is NOT going to score on most possessions against Alabama's defense. Alabama would stop Oklahoma enough to win the game. Alabama has an excellent secondary....unless you are saying Oklahoma would throw the ball short to your TE every time?

One reason Mayfield looks unstoppable is because of all the possessions he gets in the BIG 12. Don't get me wrong...Mayfield is good. VERY good.

It should be noted, however, that I said that I thought Auburn's defense had a better chance of shutting oKlahoma's offense down.

Lets not forget that Iowa State and Texas held Okalahoma's offense down, and I can assure you, neither has an offense as good as either Alabama or Auburn.
Shoot, Ehlinger of Texas threw for almost 2300 yards and ran for another 100. Imagine what Hurts, Scarborough and Harris would do to Oklahoma.
Never mind what Kempt of Iowa State did to your defense.

SEC is incredibly down this year.

In one of our "up" years, this Bama squad has at least 2 losses IMO.

But, they're still #1 and shouldn't move until they lose.

There would have to be complete human disregard of computer rankings for AU to be left out.

I don't know about computer rankings, but Penn State got passed over last year for similar reasons. but like I said. no use arguing. We both have an opinion. I'm not trying to downgrade Auburn. I am just saying they won't, in my opinion, bump a two loss team over a one loss team. First, you will have to beat Alabama....which is possible.

We'll know more tomorrow evening. If AU is #6, it's inevitable if AU wins out.

The differences between Auburn’s potential 2017 case and Penn State’s 2016 case are simple.
Penn State’s two losses last season included a blowout to Michigan. Both of Auburn’s so far this season were by single scores on the road against currently ranked teams.

Auburn would also have a far better list of wins. The 12 teams that made the Playoff in its first three years all had good wins, but having three top-10 wins is pretty rare.

In fact, look at the trend-breaking team that made the Playoff in 2016.
Ohio State made it despite not being a conference champ because it’d beaten No. 6 Michigan, No. 7 Oklahoma, and No. 8 Wisconsin. Auburn’s best three wins would rank even better, since UGA would count twice.

There are two ways to respond to "Who's the best" both are subjective BTW.

One is to see who is playing better at the moment; the other is who has the best body of work. With just a few games left taking the entire season into account seems like a more logical approach right now. Alabama, Oklahoma and Miami deserve the most consideration for being the best.

I get why every is saying Miami, but look at their whole schedule. They barely beat terrier teams the entire season.

I agree but they have won those games and are playing better lately. Pains me to say it I hate Miami, though Ritch I like. Seems like a nice guy.

That doesn't seem to matter in terms of getting to the playoffs.

Could be. If you beat Alabama, then Clemson and Miami play each other, that would be two teams ahead of you getting beat.

I'm not saying you can't. It would just surprise me greatly. That said, I have been surprised greatly more than one time in my life!

I have been downplaying Auburn's chances for making the playoffs because they have two losses. I will stand by that.

However, now for the case for them to make the playoffs,

If they win out they will have beaten the #1 team in the country...twice...Georgia once, and Alabama once (Alabama will move up this week)...and then the #5 or 6 team...wherever Georgia falls.

That is a pretty impressive resume.

They all look pretty even to me. A healthy Bama is probably the best of the bunch but still not by much.

Pretty much my take. But with 3 starting LB's out, I'm thinking Clemson my be the best even without Deshawn Watson.

If we win out, we'd have beaten 3 top 8 teams, including 2 #1 teams. No other team in college football will be able to say that.

Bama

They're down quite a few starters due to injuries and still haven't been beaten. That's impressive.
