This is way before my time, but I always heard that Lester Hayes you was one of the fastest guy we had
Lester is a good guess and he was also from the same timeframe as me - back before stopwatches were invented. But the fastest from those teams was Curtis Dickey, 3-time NCAA 60 yard dash champ.

Damiere Byrd won a national title in the 60 yard dash for the track team while at SC. Ran the 60 in 6.66 seconds. That's World Class Speed When Byrd was a sophomore, he beat future Olympian Ameer Webb at the SEC Indoor Track & Field Championships. He ran a 4.28 40 at his SC pro day back in 2015.

Jones ran 4.37 at the combine... At 6'6" and 240lbs. I still think it's the fastest time ever for a QB.
No one ran the lines like Jones.

If Lester wouldn't have weighed his socks down with 5 lbs of StickUm he could have gone below 4 seconds.

I’m pretty confident Tanner English was the fastest Gamecock ever.
He’s still running.
He’s still running.

No Bama player said "frick yo angles" quite like Jaylen Waddle

Pierre Goode had speed in the 4.3 range. He just couldn't run a route to save his life.

That's pretty tough...for "football speed" it would be tough to beat Willie Gault, historically.
Willie Gault part of world record 4x110 relay team in '83
10.10 100m
Qualified for boycotted 1980 Olympic Team
UT also had Sam Graddy...who won gold in the 4x100 in the '84 olympics
On the current roster, Jalin Hyatt has run a 4.31 in the 40 (timed at The Opening - Regional 2018).

Wouldn't you have Herschel in the discussion?
I saw the man run in the SEC indoor championships in Gainesville. The man in track shorts was just an ungodly specimen. Thighs like tree trunks.

I think there was a picture in SI of Herschel at the SEC meet. Completely filled the lane and the other sprinters looked like munchkins.

Of our current players it's most likely Arian Smith
Just ran a 10.10 in the 100m for the UGA track team. Dude can straight fly.

Pretty sure Leonard Scott for Tennessee back in late 90’s/early 2000’s was arguably one of the fastest players ever in the SEC.
Completely forgot about Leonard Scott...super fast...couldn't catch a cold.
He did run a 9.91 100m.

Smith might be the fastest player in the conference right now.
The fastest player I can remember at Georgia was Branden Smith. Kind of an obscure name, but that dude had unreal speed. That TD run against South Carolina in 2009 when he left 6 defenders in a vapor trail was amazing. Here's the play

ever? Trindon Holliday and Xavier Carter, both NCAA 100m champs. Bennie Brazell was also in the Olympic finals in the 100m hurdles. Eddie kennison is probably up there as well. He won the NFL's fastest man multiple times.

Remember a lot of folks being pissed he didn't go to LSU. He was from just outside Baton Rouge

Trindon Holliday might have been the fastest player I've ever seen in the SEC. 40 times are a good base, but some guys just seem to play faster than others. Holliday played faster than other guys.
Tyreek Hill doesn’t hold the record for fastest 40 time, but he is the fastest player in pads I've ever seen, for instance.

both of those guys being so short with a low center of gravity make them a lot quicker than guys who have comparable straight line speed. Holliday and Hill were/are like water bugs on the football field with world class straight line speed to boot. Hill did run a wind-aided 9.98 100m back in 2013. He finished 2nd in the JUCO nationals in the 100m, which is where his track career ended.

Jeff Demps was on the Olympic 100m relay team.

Florida never got Demps the ball enough. He and Chris Rainey could fly.
