That pretty much proves my point.

That OSU treated him like trash?

It’d be interesting to see if he claimed OSU as anything.

That isn't even a remotely intelligent comment.

In addition to more major championships and 2nd places in majors, Nicklaus faced much tougher competition when he won those majors than when Woods was winning his.

And winning majors isn't being "decorated."

The same way that Floyd Mayweather retired 50-0 and calls himself TBE (The Best Ever), but there isn’t a credible boxing aficionado that would call Floyd the best boxer ever and most wouldn’t have him in their top 10.

Throw Bo in for the 4th as one of (if not the only) to make the all-star game of two different pro leagues.
All-star games are popularity contests.

Both his pro-baseball and football careers can best be described as mediocre.

Isn't Auburn the only school with HOFers in each of the Big3 sports?

Don't think this is correct, my school has one in each of the Big 3 and 2 golds in the Olympics.

I'll give you Jack. He is definitely the greatest golfer of all time, imo. However, don't even tell me OSU is a golfing power. Just ain't so. There's about 5 or 6 SEC programs who have put more golfers on the PGA tour individually than all the Big Dump Conference combined. And yea, Archie Griffin got voted 2 Heismans. Big whoop. Herschel and Bo were light years better. I think you know this. Also, check out your record against the SEC in Bowl games. It ain't pretty. I got more ammo too, but I think I've made my case.

Nice, but from the evidence presented in this thread, I would give it to UCLA

A lot can be said for timing. Rocky Marciano was the only undefeated heavyweight champion. The best of all time?

He happened to fight in a boxing era between Joe Louis and Muhammad Ali. Jersey Joe Wilcox, past his prime, nearly got him.

With a whopping 1 individual gold, and 2 relay golds? One of my swim coaches, that you've likely never heard of, walked from the same olympics with 3 golds and silver Dude might not even been in UF swimming's mount rushmore.

Rowdy Gaines primary Olympics was 1980 which were cancelled by Jimmy Carter. He would have won much more if not for that. He had to make a comeback to compete in 1984.

Bama fans can’t relate. They only understand Football, no other interests or achievements otherwise.

Same reason Bill Russell isn't the GOAT basketball player.

Not saying anyone who wants to say Nicklaus is the best, but peak Tiger was most dominant player in the sport. The game has changed bringing in more injuries and wear on bodies.

And this isn't a golfing thread, but may as well go ahead and discuss the competition argument that arises. While there were certainly more big, all time major winner names in that era, they didn't really have any parity. Only a handful of players actually competed for majors. The sport has increased parity with time as more people gained interest, a trend that has started to explode in the current era. Tiger was competing against a larger number of people who could win if they played well if you go back and look at the major winners in late 90's / early 2000's
