Plenty of vitriol in the replies, but I have yet to see a more impressive list.

Jack Nicklaus has 18 majors.
Tiger is 2nd with 15.
Ben Hogan is in 4th place with 9 majors.

Jack Nicklaus has twice as many majors as the golfer with the 4th most majors.

Way out in Lawrence County, not too far from Moulton down 157. They have signs about it, and then also some kind of Indian burial site.

Or that was the case about 25 years ago anyway.

That boy must have been as country as country gets.

Jesse Owens park is still the location for the AHSAA Cross Country state championship and many other cross country events throughout the year.

Golf is like long range shooting, but for girls.

yes but y'all wouldn't let blacks compete...

neither would you hillbillies.

Fact is, the myth that the Northern and Midwest teams were fully integrated before the late 1960s is b.s.

Possibly.

Woody Hayes (Coaching legend)

Definite legend but Alabama has the two greatest college coaches.

Archie Griffin (The only 2 time heisman winner)

Can not argue with this. Man was great.

Great lineup you listed there. Will be interesting how it stacks up against other schools.

Never heard of any of them except Hayes - and the only reason I've heard of him is because he likes to punch refs.

Wow, a civilized response that actually addresses each case.
Who would you choose over Jesse Owens?

While at Ohio State he shattered 4 world records in a 45 minute span.
He won 4 gold medals at the 1936 Olympics.
His 100m record stood for decades and was broken more due to advancements in track surfaces, shoes, starting blocks.
The times he ran on cinder, without starting blocks, in inferior shoes is pretty impressive.
Would be nice to see what he would run on todays surfaces, with starting blocks, and in modern equipment.
Not to mention proper nutrition and being dedicated full time with plenty of money and resources.
Bolt would probably still be faster, but I think Jesse is probably 2nd fastest all time with all things being equal.

Griffins stats the second year were such a joke he shouldn't have even been considered.

I was thinking maybe Carl Lewis or Edwin Moses, but you bring up good points. With modern equipment, medicine, and training techniques, Owens may be the greatest.

Most modern track and field athletes have used enhancement drugs to help them too. I don't think Owens had access to that stuff back then.

While at Ohio State - Though Owens enjoyed athletic success, he had to live off campus with other African-American athletes. When he traveled with the team, Owens was restricted to ordering carry-out or eating at "blacks-only" restaurants. Similarly, he had to stay at "blacks-only" hotels. Owens did not receive a scholarship for his efforts, so he continued to work part-time jobs to pay for school

That pretty much proves my point.
While working part time and eating a poor diet he was still able to shatter 4 world records in a 45 minute span while at Ohio State.
Imagine what he would have accomplished dedicated full time with proper nutrition and training etc.
