re: More details emerge on FSU/Clemson settlement with ACC
Posted by dlc83 on 3/5/25 at 9:37 am
This is the end of the ACC as we know it. We had a good run.
Looking forward to joining the SEC in the coming years and reconnecting with our Southern Conference brethren.
The ACC will continue after the departure of Clemson, FSU, Miami, UNC et al, it will just be a lower tier league - great at the non revenue sports.

UNC is undefeated, swept ECU and beat Coastal last evening. Facing a big series this weekend with Stanford. :dude:
re: We are all in agreement that Belichick is going to fail, right?

UNC alum and lifelong Tar Heel football fan.
I cannot stress how SHOCKED my fellow alums are with this move. This is so counter to the "Carolina Way" and our stuffy, too-good-for-football PTB and certain fans.
We're stoked that this move is finally getting UNC to move towards the modern era of college sports. Credit the new Chancellor who appears to have spearheaded this move - along with certain BOT members.
I think the 70-50 loss to JMU in Kenan and the beat down we received from Alabama in the Dean Dome were real eye openers for our administration. We needed to embrace the NIL era.

How 'bout that 2024/2025 offseason!
BB brought in to the change the football culture (or lack thereof) at UNC and get donors to increase NIL budget to Big Boy level.

re: Georgia fans: what's the in-state 'rivalry' with GT like for the fans?
Posted by dlc83 on 8/27/24 at 10:32 am
I've lived in ATL for almost 40 years within 4 or so miles from the Tech campus. It is without a doubt the #1 asset of the State of Georgia and it's not even close. Just ask Gov. Kemp and any CEO of a Georgia based fortune 500 company.
I was so happy for Tech, and their fans, this past Saturday.
That said, the Dawgs are currently the best college football program in the nation.
Bottom line is that it is a "unique" rivalry that is almost beside the point.

What the hell are they yelling?
re: LSU Regional Games most watched Regional games on record

Agee. That series certainly didn't feel like only a regional contest. The viewing numbers support this.
re: Imagine struggling in Chapel Hill

"No problem" advancing in that environment? Really. The series ended with Arkansas hitting a walk off single to win the game 4 to 3 over the Heels for the Super Regional win.
Oh by the way, Arkansas had a dog pile celebration at second base as part of its extended celebration. I think it's fine but some here felt like the Heels celebrated too much after the LSU series win last evening.

re: What did you think about the North Carolina celebration after LSU gifted them last night?
Posted by dlc83 on 6/4/24 at 2:35 pm
I don't think UNC would have celebrated the way they did but for the circumstances. It was a terrific regional and the trio of games against LSU which definitely had a Super Regional feel to it. UNC defeated an LSU team playing very well as defending National Champions. Not a ho hum win. :nana:
re: Have we ever beaten UNC in baseball?
Posted by dlc83 on 6/1/24 at 8:57 pm
Yeah, like 22 of our best players out for the game (most on defense).
re: If you really want to rustle an older UNC fan this weekend, bring up this game.

Agree, this in no way compares to the 2012 NCAA tourney when the Creighton goon broke Kendal Marshall's hand, killing our chances in the FF.
re: Agree or disagree with what UNC fan thinks about us?
Posted by dlc83 on 5/31/24 at 9:58 am
Truthfully, most UNC fans I know who are attending the Regional are excited to have the Tigers and their fans at the Bosh this weekend. SEC West fans are at a different level of fandom and it's nice to have that atmosphere travel to UNC. It will cause our fans to pick up their game.

....because IT'S TRUE. That UNC team was unbelievably talented.
re: Why is Virginia such a shitty offensive team?
Posted by dlc83 on 3/20/24 at 12:58 pm
UVA wins lot of games because Bennett is a good coach. But they benefit in league games, particularly road games, because the ACC refs allow his team to get away with holding, grabbing, bumping and moving screens.

Hate it but hats off to the Wuffies. They outplayed us last night. 5 games in 5 days is impressive by any definition.

UNC would never be anything better than middle tier. We are well aware of this fact.
We all know it but we need the SEC for our athletic dollars and to continue supporting our 28 teams. Plus we need $$ to keep our basketball program elite.
Nobody wants to go to the BIG other than our college administrators and faculty.

And headed to UNC. Feeling great because I hear he’s as good as Drake Maye and Sam Howell….so we should be fine next season.
