Bert was hired before NIL and the portal.

The problem he faced was that he didn't take his job seriously and was too confident in himself.

This led to the very first winless SEC season in program history.

People forget his seat was getting hot towards the end of the 2014 season but consecutive wins against LSU and Ole Miss saved him. Next he destroys Texas in a bowl game and was given an unnecessary extension.

The 2015 team was his best but he lost to Toledo and Texas Tech at home. Lost to Mississippi State at home. Those losses derailed what could have been a great season but his game preparation and management during these games was pretty bad.

Despite that, he was improving each season and the 2016 season was looking at another improved year. Until Arkansas blew a 24-7 lead against Missouri and another 24-7 lead against Virginia Tech. Instead of going 9-4, they went 7-6 and so it began to crash very quickly.

The negative momentum carried over to the 2017 season at 4-8. Bert was fired soon after the Missouri game.

Had Bert won the Missouri and Virginia Tech games, he would have coached a bit longer.

He left Wisconsin because he couldn't beat Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State enough.

He lost three consecutive Rose Bowls.

Bert was feeling a lot of heat, he wasn't getting fired but Wisconsin fans were apparently not happy with him not winning a Rose Bowl.

He should have stayed and he had a good thing going for him in Wisconsin.

He didn't have the work ethic to be successful at Arkansas or any school in the SEC.

Bert I believe was at a coaching clinic in Texas and he said if you don't have a fullback, we are going to kick your arse or something like that.

That irritated Kingsbury and they beat Arkansas the next year.

Arkansas was a preseason top 10 team before the 2012 season. After Petrino was fired the national media had so much respect for Arkansas that the firing had no impact on the ranking.

John L. Smith was a scatter brain idiot that made the team out of shape and injury prone all season.

Bert inherited talent in his first season and most media outlets had Arkansas going 6-6. But he bit off more than he could chew and it was unexceptable for his first season.

Now with Petrino, many fans would say that his recruiting would do him in eventually. That may be true but he left Bert a lot of good players from the 2013-2016 seasons on top of his own players. When he started running out of the Petrino players, he started declining fast.

I know for a fact, Petrino would have not gone winless in the SEC in 2013. He would have won more games with the 2014 and 2015 teams.

I seriously doubt that. He gained a lot of weight and his alcoholism was so bad that he need a chaperone on Dickson Street and he often got drunk at the Eastside Grill before games in Fayetteville.

He had 24-7 leads in both games. Poor game management lost both games.

2017 was awful and very much a Chad Morris type season. If Ole Miss didn't blow a huge lead in that game, he gets another SEC winless season.

He deserved his firing.

Bert laid the foundation of a loser program with the very first winless SEC season.

He would have been fired at a lot of elite programs and of course losing in the fourth quarter more than any program in the nation.

What could have been if Petrino could have kept it in his pants.

Not sure he had much of a choice. He was leaving before he was forced out. He is arrogant but the guy he worked for was worse.

He had a choice. He was getting plenty of heat and Wisconsin wasn't at any point going to fire Bert.

Always love your mongoloid level stupid posts. Always about Arkansas. Also “cajunbama”… Pick a team and state, loser - it’s like a bad color clash.

Many hog fans on here would say that Petrino wouldn't have last as long because he couldn't recruit. That may have some truth to that but he certainly would have done better than Bert, Chad and Pittman.

This is the records I believe Petrino would have had if he wasn't fired.

2012 8-4
2013 7-5
2014 10-2
2015 11-1
2016 8-4
2017 7-5
2018 8-4
2019 6-6
2020 6-4
2021 9-3
2022 10-2
2023 9-3
2024 9-3
2025 8-4

He would have averaged 8.5 wins per season at Arkansas.

For the record, Bret came back and throttled them the next year in Lubbock.

Hard to say.

Both lard asses have ample bosoms, however, "The Titboss" is a far superior nickname to just about anyone ever.

He’s such a jackass the hog fans were ready to cut him loose before he went 4-8 but I have a feeling if he was given a longer leash he’d still be at Arlene’s cranking out 8-4/9-3 seasons regularly

He beat Tech at Lubbock then the following summer insulted high school coaches at a clinic in Texas.

Kingsbury beat Arkansas in Fayetteville the next year and he mouthed off to Bert.
