The players are good enough. The lines were a little weird in '22 because the Oline had to be rebuilt and ended up with 2 true frosh tackles. They figured out the starting 5 as the season went on and the freshmen grew up. The oline will be very good from game 1 on next year. The Dline was talented but thin and they lost the best player early in game one, which caused 2 guys to play almost every snap and they wore down. They'll be better next year, but it will take at least two more classes to build an elite 2-deep.
They have elite LBs, but no depth and it looks like elite corner talent as well. Skill position talent is all very good to elite.
So, LSU lacks depth in a couple spots, but the 1s are playoff caliber. A couple key Injuries could quickly change that. I think that's the case with most of the top teams.

Best OL in college football that year.
"They weren't that good."
Perhaps.... lower your expectations?
They weren't even top 20 in a lot of advanced statistics.

Again... given the award for the BEST OL IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL.

Well that settles it.
Because no one has ever won an award they didn't deserve.

It was pretty readily agreed upon on this board by both LSU fans and non-LSU fans that the OL was by far the weakest part of that offense.
So I guess as far as offensive units go, the OL was the "worst", but it was still damn good.
IIRC, Burrow even gave his team MVP award to the center.

They were good, not great though. That was my original statement.
Just for an example, LSU was ranked #47 in quarterback sacks, when adjusted for pass attempts.
And that's with Burrow avoiding a lot of sacks on his own.

I think Norvell and HalfassU are a playoff team this season.

Meh, I'm with Sidewalk. That was not an elite OL in terms of how they played that season. Burrow's insane pocket awareness and ability to move around helped them as pass blockers and CEH helped them as run blockers.
This is true. Burrow’s pocket presence made them look so much better. Them winning that award was similar to Delpit winning the Thorpe.

OP plays tummy sticks with Josh Pate.
Pate is setting the bar really low for elite status

Good question. I just know I am sure as hell not going to google it.

Same.
If cajunbama is the only one who knows about it, then it can't be good.

Sure people have.
But the reality is that if you get an award for the best in the nation at a position... you don't suck at that position. You may not be the best, but you're still pretty darn good.
Caleb Williams may not have deserved the Heisman, but he's a good QB. Same is true for any QB who won the Heisman undeservedly.
LSU had a very good OL in 2019. Don't poor mouth your own team.

I'll never understand the media's obsession with Lincoln Riley. His teams are considered great until an actually great team comes by and puts them in a woodchipper.

I member when gumps were still melting about Bama beating itself again.

LSU is an elite program. To say otherwise is laughable. 3 titles in 20 years makes it so.Only The Evil Empire has more. LSU has not had an elite team in 3 years since they had the best season in college football history.

I think JP's stance is that an Elite program, doesn't have off-years. They reload and are right back in contention year-after-year. Right now, in the SEC. It's only AL & GA, with LSU just flying under. The problem is that LSU has the talent, resources and availability to field elite teams, it just hasn't happened consistently.

I never said they sucked, I just said they weren't great.
