SMU would be a good fit, Louisiana has room to add another school, LaTech or original member Tulane. I wouldn't like it but Memphis would fit in. Another original member in Georgia Tech would make a lot of sense.
Mississippi has 2 schools in, Alabama has two, Florida, with its population only having once school in is crazy, so FSU makes a lot of sense.

NCST, UNC, Clemson, GaTech.

Clemson, NCSU, VT fit well. FSU fits well too. UNC and UVA less so, OKST and Texas Tech absolutely not. WVU is kind of a wildcard can't really place them but they do have some similarities. Duke and Wake might as well be in the Northeast
Outside of FSU no they don't. To fit in culturally with the SEC you should at least have SOME kind of connection to the OG SEC. Clemson comes close with their USCe rivalry, but USCe doesn't scream SEC and only joined in 1991. FSU at least has Florida.
And while A&M's biggest rival wasn't LSU or anything, there was so much overlap between A&M and LSU that the move made perfect sense.

Fit:
FSU and Clemson
Somewhat fit:
OSU - Oklahoma is a bit south and a bit southwest. Its midwestern influence is minimal and overstated by people who don't understand Oklahoma. That said, Stillwater is further north near Kansas where if there is some midwestern influence it would be up there.
Texas Tech - Very southwest. Depends on how much you view southwest to share an identity with the South.
Probably does not fit:
WVU - They definitely fit in with Kentucky and maybe Tennessee as Appalachian states. Can't decide between themselves if they are northern or southern. Short drive from Morgantown to Pittsburgh. While Pittsburgh is a great city, it isn't southern.
Does not fit:
Virginia Tech - Most students come from Northern Virginia. I lived in Northern Virginia for 16 years. It is not the South or southern. I know it had southern roots and maybe rural areas are still a bit southern but not really.
Teams you are missing:
UNC and NC State - Both fit far more than Virginia Tech.
FSU and Clemson

The actual best fit culturally not expansion wise is Clemson. Former southern conference, basically copied miss st plan to become land grant university, football team was started by former auburn coach which is why they are the tigers, they are orange and purple bc their original uniforms were old auburn uniforms, blue faded to purple. The three biggest coaches in their history are all former Alabama football players.

As someone who has spent a LOT of time in Oklahoma, I can confirm this. At least the areas around Tulsa were very Southern in nature (except for the abundance of Tabbouleh in restaurants).

When I think SEC culture, I'm thinking of fanbases that care a lot about their football program and baseball programs.
Okie Light and FSU are probably best fit in that list.

It don't matter to me, but them that ain't never spent time in the Oklahoma counties that are hard agin the Arkansaw line are making the wrong judgement about not being Southern.
There are several enclaves up and down the East and Southeast side of the State where you will hear ever dialect of Southern English except Gullah and Virginia Tidewater. Grits are standard breakfast on the side. Redeye gravy is still known how to be made. Cane is pressed ever fall to make molasses and a lot of hogs are still scalded and scraped on New Years Day.
And if you go into a beer joint and run your mouth too much, ya best be able to fight your way out.

The SEC is now a blend of Appalachian (Tennessee, Kentucky), Deep South (SC, GA, FL, AL, MS), Cajun (LA), and Southwest (AR, MO, OK, TX) cultures. NC, VA, and WV are as far as we could go without introducing a different culture. Maybe AZ.

Worst road trip I’ve ever been on is Morgantown. Went in 2011. fricking hillbillies have a gauntlet of a-hole fans going to the stadium on the hill. I know LSU fans get a bad rap but we are choir boys compared to WV. An LSU fan was dragged out of his car and almost beat to death after the game. He was in ICU for a few weeks up there.

I don't get WVU at all. Not that parts of West Virginia aren't southern... but Morgantown damn sure isn't. It's basically a Pennsylvania town.
Sort of an odd spot in the state much like how Fayetteville is stuck up in the corner of Arkansas and has a lot of Missouri and Oklahoma feel in the area.

TTU and OKST both would be better fits in the SEC than Mizzou.
However, I don't want either in the SEC, and I'm also an OKST grad.

UNC has enough athletic achievement, and southern compatibility to fit.
