I don't actually think Keen 'hates' A&m or College Station, I would however argue he most likely has conflicted feelings there.

Nobody who has written and performed a song about Copenhagen can possibly have ever, ever had a bad thing to say about Texas A&M. It's science.

I've definitely heard Keen speak somewhat negatively about A&M/College Station on live recordings. Not as sure about Lovett. Regardless, it is incredibly that these two behemoths linked up together in college and A&M should be proud either way.

ETA: I know y'all are gonna ask for links but I don't have that in front of me. Maybe I'll try to find examples later.

Robert Earl Keen talks about being an Aggie with Lovett on Front Porch Song on his live album "No. 2 Live Dinner". He 100% is an Aggie. They would be "sitting on their front porch covered in beer cans watching the Presbyterians come out of church" or something to that extent

Doug was a huge baseball fan, I don't know what his college allegiance was and i don't care, he's a bona fide legend

Also for UGA - James Brown. Performed “Dooley’s Junkyard Dawgs” in Sanford Stadium and was a big Dawgs fan. UGA has REM, Widespread Panic, The B-52’s, and The Godfather of Soul. ATM is probably the only school that can compete with REK, Lyle Lovett, and Roger Creager.

Don't forget Otis Redding.

Jim Weatherly: Ole Miss QB for 2 SEC Championships (1962 and 1963) and a National Championship (1962)-and then wrote "Midnight Train to Georgia."

What a life.

Leon Wilkeson is not really associated with Ole Miss, but he's associated with my memories of Ole Miss.

I met Leon Wilkeson late one evening in the lobby of a hotel in Memphis on October 31, 1998 after Ole Miss defeated LSU in Oxford. The band was leaving for a show at the Mobile Fairgrounds. Two people were bothering the shite out of him about autographs. I was standing at the bar and he turned to me and said, "What's going on man?" I told him I had just come from the game and he said, "Awww shite-I love Ole Miss..." We talked about Ole Miss football for a bit and and then he said, "what are you doing tomorrow?" I told him I had no plans and was probably going to just drive back to Oxford. He grabbed the road manager, got my name and said, "You'll have 4 free tickets and backstage passes at the ticket office in Mobile tomorrow. Get there early so you can be up front. I'll be looking for you-hand me this when you can," and he gave me a Jason mask he had worn that night at the show in Memphis.

I called all my friends to go to the show (this was before cell phones were widespread). Half of them didn't answer. The other half didn't believe me. So I didn't go. I still have the mask.

Not going to that show is still one of my biggest regrets in life.

Katie Perry-just because.

REK and Lyle played some shows together where it was just the two of them playing guitar, no backing band. When they played the auditorium in Wichita Falls, I was president of the local A&M club, and got an email from the road manager asking me to invite local Aggies to buy tickets in the orchestra pit. It was pretty cool to see the show from the first row. We had a great time, and they both told some good A&M stories, and ackowleged us in the pit.

They were talking about the English Lit class they took together at aTm when I saw them on the stage together last week. They both spoke really highly of their college experience.
