What are some classic rain college football games you witnessed (in person or on TV)?

All this talk about Bama/UGA prospects with the system coming in got me thinking about what would actually have to happen for the game to get postponed in 2026. It seems like we as a society have collectively decided to be pussies about most things, including weather delays. I know it should be about wind gusts and lightning only, but I feel like I remember more games being played in driving rain than they’re willing to let happen now.

What are some you remember? Most of these weren’t really driving rain, but recent wet Bama games include last year at FSU, that bowl against Michigan, @ South Florida a couple years ago, and of course that shite 2000 Iron Bowl I endured in person. I also remember being at a pretty rainy Mississippi State game sometime in the mid-to-late ’90s.

What says the rant? I feel like I remember some major rain games in Baton Rouge, can’t remember against who.

2000 Iron Bowl is stuck in my head. Sleet and rain. Fit pretty well for what happened on the field.

2015 Bama @ UGA.

Georgia fans were so cocky before that game and Derrick Henry annihilated their defense and emptied their stadium by halftime in a torrential downpour from a tropical system.

That 2001 Alabama-Southern Miss game on Thursday night in Legion Field was a monsoon.

I was at the 1996 Mississippi State @ LSU football game that LSU won 28-20.
I vividly remember our OL Ben Bordelon blocking his man and then sliding down the field like he was on a slip and slide.

I also remember 2017 LSU @ Tennessee that LSU won 33-10. That was some absolute horrible weather to play in, but it was a fun game otherwise.

I was at the sleeting 32 degree iron bowl.

Other wettest Auburn games I can remember were West Virginia at Auburn in 2009... the Outback Bowl vs Penn State in 1995 was a complete washout as well.

A&M vs. Texas at Kyle Field in 1997. Lightning knocked out the scoreboard temporarily, but play never stopped. Driving rain and high winds throughout the first half. Died down in the second. Got completely soaked despite a full rain suit.

1967 Bama/Barn in Legion Field - Stabler's 4th quarter "Run in the Mud" touchdown won the game 7-3. My dad took me to the game and he wanted to leave at the end of the 3rd quarter - we were cold and wet - I kept begging him to stay and so we got to witness the run - made the drive back to Huntsville much more enjoyable.

My sons bought me the Daniel Moore "Run In The Mud" print.

1988 LSU v Miami Hurricanes.

The rain half-filled up my 32oz cup containing a pint of smuggled bourbon. Miami tore LSU a new one, 44-3, and me and my buddy stayed for every snap. We were the only two left in Section 217 by the final whistle. That is some of the hardest rain I have ever seen and my team got pistol-whipped. I've hated Michael Irvin ever since. ...and bourbon with water.

82 IRON BOWL

I sat in the upper deck and during the game a tornado went through Birmingham..

The game never stopped and Auburn ended a 10 year drought against Bama in a rain storm

I was at the 2001 Mississippi State-Troy State football game with heavy rains throughout and a 70 minute tornado warning delay in the 2nd quarter. Troy won 21-9. I was in the 8th grade and one of my best friend's dad was an all-time corner back for Troy in the late 80s, and dedicated alum/donor so I would go to a lot of games with them, mostly home games. But I went to this one away game with them. It was a blast for 8th grade me. I also remember listening to the AU-UF game on our way home when Duval kicked that game winner.

2018 Mizzou-SC, aka The Scarnecchia Game.

Game was delayed, and during a torrential downpour, a barely known 3rd string QB gave Muschamp one of his best (only) wins as HC at W-B.

The 2016 ND/NC State game was probably the wettest game I have ever watched.

Was in Baton Rouge in 79ish? Damn. It monsooned. Tennessee and Florida in 92 when the remnants of Andrew went through. Iron Bowl of 83. Watched Miami and LSU in 88 and it POURED during that one. Probably the worst I ever was at was Bama and Boston college at the Patriots stadium in 83. It rotated between sleet, snow and rain with temps in the 20s. It was miserable.
