Prior to 1936 we went by the name Mississippi Flood. What a bad arse name. Not as good as Rebals, but I’ll take it. Plus we can get rid of that terrible shark thing!

The Mississippi Flood of 1927 devastated the Delta region of Mississippi which was then even more overwhelmingly black than it is today, so that name is racist.

Wasn't that only for 7 - 8 years? If we're forced to change, how about something like the Mississippi Rogues (still related to Rebels), or the Mississippi Marauders? Or just the Mississippi Sharks? That would fit with the tradition of riverboat gambling.

Ok I think I got it.... If OM becomes "The Flood" the mascot should be a water moccasin. Floods tend to push a lot of water moccasins into yards.
Plus it's a nice cuddly animal so they could make a petting enclosure on campus for the kids on gameday.
