Which is why Fournette's name keeps coming up. He didn't accomplish anything. Did they even make the SEC title game during his tenure?

Fournette was a good RB but not top 5 in the history of the SEC.

Obviously, it is really impossible to compare eras but I like to give props to the guys that played years back and keep their names alive to the newer generation.

I just threw Boobie Dixon in there because he was a State RB and a good one at that but not really top 5. :)

Really my three faves with no bias were
Herschel, Bo and McFadden.

Hershel Walker was the best I ever saw in the SEC growing up. Both he and Bo Jackson are on the Mount Olympus of college RB.

After those 2 it's a little mushier. Darren MacFadden and Emmitt Smith were almost unstoppable in college. I think a really overlooked guy on this thread was 2 time all american, Bobby Humphrey at Alabama in the late 1980's, who for my money is still arguably the best RB of the modern era from UA along with Shaun Alexander.

Most physically talented/gifted: the top 3 are in a class of their own with a gap even between each of them.
Bo Jackson (speed and power combo like no one else at the time and ran arrogantly)

Herschel Walker (legendary workhorse with great speed and power, just a half notch behind Bo)

Shawn Alexander (not as fast, quick or as powerful as the other 2, but the best vision and intelligence I've ever seen, including the NFL. If there was a hole anywhere he could find it and get to it. Incredibly gifted in the open field, never made a mistake. He could make even Minkah Fitzpatrick look like a fool and do it every single time. Ran with great power for TDs and first downs.)

Most effective/productive:
Walker
Jackson
Emmitt Smith
Alexander

Fournette is the 2nd fastest guy on that list behind DMac. We are talking laser times...much different than the past. He recorded the top speed of any player in an NFL game last year. He actually has the top two speeds.

I think your top 5 contains at least 3 no brainers in Walker, Jackson, and DMac. You could go around and debate a whole lot of guys in this list. I think the consistency of Kevin Faulk is hard to deny...from an all purpose standpoint, he’s one of the best SEC athletes of all time. There have been so many great rbs in the league.
