He must be reading this board because he basically said, word for word, what I've been saying about A&M all year with regard to how SEC defenses are going to treat Mainzel next season. Anyways, here you go.

Former Texas Tech coach Tommy Tuberville says Texas A&M 'overachieved' in SEC debut

He had plenty to say, about Sumlin, about A&M, about recruiting and about Mainzel and what he will see next year from SEC defenses.

quote:

"I think it’ll be hard for them to keep that up," Tuberville said. "Kevin Sumlin is doing a fabulous job of recruiting. I’ve recruited against A&M for years, and they’re making their mark in recruiting against all the Big 12 teams and any team that’s coming into the state of Texas.

"With that said, I think they probably overachieved this year. Knowing the talent that they had with the quarterback that played and obviously was one of if not the best player in college football. But it kind of catches up with you. I think next year will be even tougher because teams will now see what they’ve done and who the quarterback is, they’ll gameplan in the summer, and it’ll be awful tough for them to repeat what they did this year."

Tuberville knows just how tough the SEC can be. In 14 seasons as a head coach at Ole Miss and Auburn, he racked up a 110-60 record, including a 6-3 record in bowl games. But Tuberville's teams never improved their win totals in two consecutive seasons, and he only twice managed to notch double-digit wins in a season.

But that doesn't mean his words will sit well with the Aggies, who could return up to seven starters on defense, a deep backfield, its top receiver, and as many as four of five starters on the offensive line.

Not to mention Manziel, who dazzled college football fans across the country, including Tuberville.

"I didn’t realize how good that kid was," Tuberville said. "He’s pretty special."

I don't see anything wrong with that...no one expected A&M to do as well as they did.

Next year will definitely be tougher as more teams will key in on JFF more. They will still do well, but will it translate to the same type success? We will see...

I suppose it all comes down to how johnny fixes what he doesn't do well. If he can come out next season and take less time identifying an open receiver, he could be a bigger passing threat than he is now. I think that once coaches start putting the pressure on him and having guys actually keep him down, then you will see him have to take to the air...

So you think he can have a better season than this year next year even if you lose both OT's and your center?

Yeah, he has no idea what he's talking about.

He wasn't overly critical and I didn't see anything he said that couldn't easily happen.

with the way our schedule shakes out next year I think going at least 10-2 is very likely

08/31 - Rice
09/07 - Sam Houston State
09/14 - Alabama
09/21 - SMU
09/28 - @ Arkansas
10/05 - open
10/12 - @ Ole Miss
10/19 - Auburn
10/26 - Vanderbilt
11/02 - UTEP
11/09 - Miss St
11/16 - open
11/23 - @ LSU
11/30 - @ Mizzou

Absolutely. We have the easiest schedule in the conference.

He also said that going to the SEC would HURT our recruiting and help Tech's recruiting.

How'd that prediction work out for him?

Oh yeah, we landed the #1 2013 and #1 2014 Texas recruits already.

Next year there will be some crazy expectations for A&M. All personnel losses will be ignored, all people will see is Heisman QB.

The schedule sets up decently, but I'm not sure if we're ready to make the leap just yet.

Agreed. This is the guy who said moving to the SEC would hurt our recruiting, would cause us to fall behind Tech, Baylor and TCU in Texas and would render us a doormat.

An undefeated SEC season a decade ago doesnt preclude him from being a dumbass in 2012.

Don't really care what he said about your recruiting. I don't think his comments are really critical or untrue. Next year will be tougher for Manziel. He'll have a target on his back.

Who knew going 10-2 and finishing 3rd in the West meant you had "arrived" and that your coach is a legend.

ETA: Except Arky fans lol :)

Thats one way to look at it. Another way would be us finishing ranked in the top 10 with 4 all americans, and a heisman
