The function of the shite show that has become the playoffs. Same 4 teams in it every year so there's really nothing else to play for. I don't blame the players, its the system thats fricked up.

I'm not necessarily disagreeing. But I'd like for someone to address the fact that Bama had 3 first round draft picks last year that chose to play in a meaningless game.

No one opted out at Bama. Why? What makes them different?

The scholly should be yanked immediately and the room packed. Opting out is a politically nice way of saying you quit. They should call team meetings and has these kids stand before their teammates and say “I quit”.

I agree opt outs suck arse. This is a Cotton Bowl vs a big name top 10 opponent. If this isn’t good enough what is?

I mean I can see their POV, especially those 1st rounders. I say expand the playoffs to 8 teams and do away with meaningless bowl games.

Terrible take all-around.

You want the NFL Jr. No thanks.

do away with stupid bowl games that don’t mean squat!

I think the latter is your best bet.

Opting out will continue. The players aren’t going to risk injury when their future is at stake.
In 2018 Greedy Williams opted out ball Devin White played in the Fiesta. Greedy’s teammates understood and held no ill will. It was a business decision.

This is about as dumb as it gets.

You have to be truly inept to think that those two scenarios are even close to parallel.

If an employee gets another job that starts in 3 months, and they have the capability to stay afloat during those 3 months as well as a reference in hand, you think they're going to stay at their company?

Yall have lost yalls mind with this shite. I'd honestly be fine calling it quitting, because then the negative connotation that comes with quitting can fly out the window.

These players owe nobody anything. frick outta here because now the Cotton Bowl means less to you while you sit on your fat arse eating chips and queso. Get a new hobby if you don't like it.

Bowls were originally intended to be fun and exhibition game like. It is why the final polls came out pre-bowl games. It was about bragging rights and not jockeying to secure a top 10 finish and leverage a contract extension.

That said, the # of bowls is a bigger problem than the CFPs. There are simply way too many in normal years. Lessen the bowls, so that it isn't "everyone gets a trophy." Then, getting to a bowl would mean a bit more.

Unfortunately, it still likely has little impact on some of the opt outs. That is a cultural trend that continues to grow. I'm not sure they are getting it back in the box.

Would be interesting though to see players have to pay back scholarship monies for any year they "opted out" when otherwise eligible for play.

4 playoff teams is what ruined the game. There needs to be eight teams. You would then make more bowl games relevant or go back to 1 v 2 when people actually cared about playing in a good bowl. Now these games are used to get young players ready.

I just guess I’m too old school. I was raised that if you commit to something you finish said commitment. Can you imagine going to a coach like Bear or Pat Dye and say, I’m opting out”? They would (Bear would take a sip of sour mash and Pat would spit out his chaw) and tell him to call your momma and tell her you’ll be home in time to help her with the dishes.

I think it's awesome that the DB that cost Florida their shot at the playoff for shoe tossing, opted out.

Shouldn't have been given the option. Should have been shown the door after the LSU game.

They just need to become a scrimmage for future players.

The ones who don't opt out like Trask pays the price it looks like. These WR's and TE's aren't in sync at all.

Stop calling it opting out and start calling it what it is, quitting.

The cotton bowl should matter enough to prevent opt outs. But alas, here we are.

Maybe. We've seen projected top 10 picks get seriously injury in other NY6 games recently though.
