Or just make them make a decision on opting out prior to the season starting. But it'll never happen. Expand the playoffs and people wouldn't be opting out.

If it’s meaningless, fans need to chill. The team gets the extra work, and it helps early enrollees prepare for possible playing time next year. It also rewards the ones that stick around for all the work they put in.
