I am really not an advocate of a 16-team playoff, but if they did do a 16-team playoff, the first weekend of 8 games would top the first weekend of March Madness, IMO. I think you would see a lot of upsets. It would be must-watch TV for me.

You damn playoff people won't quit until you've ruined college football.

Every other collegiate sport in every other division has a playoff. If the D1 model was so much better, the other sports would have adopted it.

16 team playoff

Be better than the NFL playoffs. And salary caps for college teams would be good too. And how about a draft in each conference. Say Michigan and LSU draft the same guy. Then he could choose which he wanted to attend after he sees what each would pay.

Or maybe, just maybe leave the damn game alone seeing as how there's too much money floating around now.

that fluke close game

I was on your side until you said that. Rewatch that game. Nothing about it was a “fluke.” Does State deserve a shot at the Natty? No. Could State, or any 16 seed in a given year, beat Row Tahd, or any 1 seed in a given year? Absolutely. I can get on board with your argument that upsets like that shouldn’t determine national championships, but there was no need to slander the awesome effort State put in the other night.

Yes, and all those divisions suck. The interest in college football (FBS) is partially because it is (or was) different from the NFL and other sports. I don't understand people who want to water it down.

Well, the playoffs have killed the bowls already. And yet, people still want the postseason.

That has very little to do with it. College football has been around in some form or fashion since 1869. It predates the NFL by over 50 years. Major college football is popular because of the tradition, the pageantry, and the fact that a lot of people see their state school as a representative of their state as a whole in the world of sports. A lot of state pride is involved. When Alabama wins a national championship, rightly or wrongly, a good many people in the state of Alabama believe they have somehow been made better or vindicated by their school's football team.

All of that tradition, pageantry, and pride will remain whether the national champion is chosen by voters at the end of the season, by a round robin national championship game, or by a 4-16 team tournament.

We don't need 16.

We need 8. Conference champs but u can't just have conference champs because the 3rd place team in the SEC Is better than the Pac 12 champ. 5 conference champs and 3 at large. No group of 5 unless they are undeniably one if the best 8.

I'd like it to be 11. P5 champions get a bye week. This would make conference championship games much more meaningful. 6-11 would play the first round.

Week 1 - 6 vs 11, 7 vs 10, 8 vs 9
Let's say that all the highest seeds won week 1.

Week 2 - 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, 3 vs 6, 4 vs 5.

I'm sure it'll never happen, but this is how I'd like it. It also expands it just enough to include a Cinderella, Notre Dame on a good year...etc, and as I previously stated, it heavily rewards conference champions.

This.

I could do Top Six though. Top two get a first round bye.
I used to be in favor of 8 but now I think 6 is the most there should ever be.

Yeah because 3 and 4 have proven to be not competitive so far.
