I even hate the concept of 8.

The problem with 2 is that some years there could be 3 deserving undefeated teams (2004).
Other years there might be one undefeated team and 2 or 3 one loss teams vying for that second spot.

4 ensures all deserving teams get in. One loss in a tough conference doesn’t eliminate a team even if there’s a couple of undefeated teams from a much weaker conference. A team like Wisconsin from a weak division will also get a shot if they go undefeated.

And their regular seasons are shite as a result, NFL included.

I've never understood this argument. Whether the regular season is a playoff or the playoff is a playoff, something is going to function as an elimination event. What does it matter if that elimination event was moved to an 8-team or a 16-team playoff? Why must the regular season be so important?

I'm indifferent either way, but I feel as if the level of importance still given to the regular season is a leftover of the days before the post-season was used to crown a national champion.

Too much emphasis is placed on conf. Champ in that scenario.

Bring back the BCS computer modeling, retain the current committee format to replace the former human poll in that model, throw out the coaches poll (which is always the worst).

BCS had it just about right. There was quibbling with 3 sometimes 4, but never a question of 5 of below being worthy. This leaves a window of opportunity, but keeps regular season games relevant. Otherwise, teams are resting their players in early Nov after a top 16 position is locked up.

Then, either:
- keep a 4 tm playoff as is with better selection model
- Go to a 5 team format where 4 vs 5 is a play-in for the 4th spot of the CFP final 4.
- go to a 6 team format where #1 and #2 get a bye

Play-in weekend is Saturday after CCG weeks to complement award show Saturday and the Army vs. Navy game in the latter scenarios.

In no universe does the 16th ranked team in the country deserve to be competing for a national championship. Not in college football unless they're alabama.

Yep. Four is enough to make sure you have the two best included. That's all you need. Keeps the entire regular season imporant.

Might be an improvement to have the semi final games two weeks before the title game. Title game should be Saturday night closest to Jan 1.

When will people ever stop worshping opinion polls? Why should opinions have anything to do with it?

The idea should be to remove the influence of the polls altogether. Just use conference champions.

I'd be happy with 12 with the top 4 getting a bye.

5 vs 12
6 vs 11
7 vs 10
8 vs 9

Then reseed and do an 8 team playoff.

Why would a 3 loss Alabama team, or anyone else with 3 or 4 losses, deserve to compete for a national championship?

Okay, now try to devise a completely objective system where opinions play no role in the selection process.

Just afraid that your team would get knocked out of the playoffs.

Something like this option seems pretty exciting to me.

Tell that to 2014 TCU. They were arguably one of the four best teams in college football that season. In fact...I believe they went from #2 or #3 to #6 in the final week of the college football season despite beating a conference opponent 55-3 in their season finale. They then crushed #9 Ole Miss in the Peach Bowl by the score of 42-3, the same Ole Miss team that beat #1 Alabama in the regular season.

More like a bunch of SJW, everybody deserves a trophy, fans of perennial average and sorry arse teams begging for a piece of the pie.

Earn it, losers.

I bet it does... so sorry arse LSU, who has beaten one bowl eligible team and lost to Troy would be on the cusp of playoff contention. Sad.

Exactly, 'at-large team' just means they aren't champions.

It’s amazing that we’ve accepted this bullshite in division one college football. In what other sport is their a popularity contest to determine the champion?

No one likes radical change. The bowl system has existed for decades and smart people, for whatever reason, have convinced themselves that the regular season is a playoff in and of itself, and that a post-season tournament is unnecessary and takes away from the enjoyment of the game.

March Madness and the NBA and NFL playoffs say otherwise.

I just don't get how an 8-team playoff would detract from the importance of the regular season. It allows the champions of all Power Five conferences to have a shot at the national title and also allows for deserving 1-loss teams or undefeated mid-majors to take a shot at the big boys.

Why don't you frick off. I'm not into participation trophies. You don't know the first thing about me dipshit.

You don't want it because you're afraid your team would get knocked out. You act like Bama should just be handed the trophy because they're undefeated thus far. You telling me that a 1-loss Wisconsin or Miami wouldn't deserve a shot if they lost at the end of the year? They get left out because of the BS politics of it all?

I'd like to see it to have a true playoff like damn near every other sport. Unlike you, I'm not homering for this to have LSU in the mix. Whether they had a better season or not. Expanding it out to deserving teams - like a 1-loss Wisconsin or Miami would still give them an opportunity. Hell, even UCF would get a shot.

Expanding the post season to add a couple more deserving teams the opportunity to win it all is a good thing.

Why is this better for the student athlete? That’s the only thing that should matter. This isnt a professional sports league.
