You may have named the 1%.
It's literally 2 guys from the same 27 man recruiting class.
And considering how close we are to the 25 man limit, 2 guys is substantial......do you need me to do the math for you or are you good there?

So what exactly is your alternative theory here?
I don't really have one, just saying its odd that a highly recruited player would offer to pay his own way.
You rarely ever see that, even among kids who are lifelong fans of this school or that and can afford it.

It's typical NCAA though, they make these rules but don't factor everything into it and loopholes allow schools to get around it. To me, if it's 25 than it should be a hard cap like baseball.
But then if you look at baseball, some teams like LSU and UGA have the TOPS and HOPE scholarships that other schools don't and Vandy has that advantage that can give athletes above the limits in place for all other schools.

That's fine, but that's a different discussion.

They basically self imposed probation. Unfortunately for them, they will probably also have to actually self impose probation, too.

You should write a book and title it Soup for the Souls of Alabama Fans with posts by LSU Patrick because your whining is invigorating.

gray shirts that is the system. Saban has the capital built up to when he ask a kid to gray shirt they say yes sir. When other schools ask they look elsewhere.
Since he got off the plane in January, 2007, every recruit he's signed that stayed for three years...including the grayshirts...has won at least one national championship. Maybe they think it's a worthwhile decision to make.

Really? A guy like Paul Tyson who is Bear Bryant's great grandson, whose family can easily afford to pay his way, wouldn't do so?
I said 99%. You may have named the 1%.
Why are you putting the burden on him? Even if he did find the "1 percent" --- surely you can name at least three who are in that 99 percent category, right? If not, I would suggest your percentages are wrong.

I meant explain it without lying.
Point to the lie in that post. Be specific.
You assert multiple times in this thread that Alabama is certainly cheating, but you don't provide any evidence, substance, etc. to back it up.

What's strange is that some of you truly think that Alabama is, out in the open, violating what is essentially a "counting rule" that is easily caught by the NCAA and by anyone who works through the math. And that the NCAA is letting Alabama do it in front of everyone. That's pretty stupid.
That's not strange.
I don't think anyone's saying that? I imagine everything looks legit on paper. Whats strange is highly sought after recruits most of which could never afford the tuitions and cost of moving to Tuscaloosa without a scholarship have many opportunities at big programs for a free ride but choose to "pay their way." I get that there's examples of players that can. But that's two guys. Bama has taken in 103 guys over the last 4 years.
If it's not complicated why is Bama the only program consistently doing it? Probably because it takes a deep infrastructure and involves very unethical practices

Yea, it's 2 specific guys. Who the hell is coming from far away and walking on at Alabama? Did you just make up a scenario in your head? The majority of greyshirts (which are different than the 2 mentioned) are in-state kids coming off injury issues. They pay for 1 semester of college and then start their scholarship in the Spring semester.

Bama has taken in 103 guys over the last 4 years.
Alabama has had 15 guys leave early for the NFL over the last 4 years by my quick count. Alabama had had 8-9 guys transfer.
And, you are now arguing a completely different subject, which is the 85 man scholarship limit, than the subject of the 25 man signing cap.
But, no matter the discussion, the points made or the truth, this is truly where most of you end up regardless of anything
quote:
Probably because it involves very unethical practices
Which is, of course, hilarious coming from fans of a program currently only able to have 81 players on scholarship because of........
quote:
unethical practices
It's ok to just admit you don't know or get it. Showing that you don't understand it and then implying that because you don't understand it means it had to be "shady" or "unethical" is pretty low grade.

You give them too much credit, George.
Your average LSU fan can barely count to 25, let alone decipher complex scholarship voodoo.
