You’re overstating the case, but that was a boneheaded call on Georgia’s own 33. He took a couple of big risks in the Texas game that paid off and it went to his head. The law of averages finally caught up with him.

There is no way they will move on from Gunner. Yeah he probably has a ceiling as a player but he won them some games and the team clearly views him as a leader. And that's just not Kirby's way.
Or is it Heupel's way?

I think UGA will be better next year. GS was basically a freshman this season. He got to play a couple really big games last year..but still young. I think he goes Jake Fromm the next 2 years.

I don't think it's passed him by.
I will say this
He needs to embrace the idea of buying the best players to fill spots instead of waiting two years to develop.
Kirby is like Saban and is used to stockpiling talent and development.
Can't do that anymore. Top recruits go to highest bidder and not the best coach. Nil allows players who don't want to be developed to go somewhere else and play.
Kirby has time to pivot but saban saw this coming and got out

I hate it when people criticize 4th down plays because if it works then it’s genius, if it doesn’t then it’s moronic.

Final 3 games for Alabama: 58 rushes, 48 yds, 0.8 yds/rush. DeBoer: Let me try a run on 4th down inside our 35-yd line.
Moronic.
Moronic.

ABSOLUTELY NOT.
If it worked, I would have still said what I said.
It’s absolutely asinine. If Sark would have done it in the same situation, and then won a game that secured a championship, I would still say that was asinine.
It’s Fourth Down at your own 33 with the game not on the line. Punt the damn ball.

This thread is embarrassing even if you were trolling. But if not trolling...you're just on the autism spectrum or have a touch of Down syndrome.

Bobo blew the game. He tried to sit on that 9-point lead and took his foot off the gas until it was too late. And Kirby let him do that.
Witness what Cignetti did in contrast in the Rose Bowl. Never took his foot off the gas.

As long as you promise to keep whining about it and cucking for Sark I'll do my best.

He may need to hit the portal harder and think about a QB. Yes Gunnar is tough, but he’s extremely limited. Also, fire Mike Bobo already. There were stretches when their offense looked absolutely dead last night and had no creativity.
Bobo ain’t going anywhere unless someone offers another HC gig. UGA is going to try to lean on you with a lead and wait for you to frick up. Ole Miss didn’t, to their credit. Most teams do. It’s a good formula. Personally I think we stick to it too long when it ain’t working but it’s also helpful to have a go to third down tight end or back when you are 3 and 5 or more. UGAs third down back is Cash Jones and while he has been fantastic at times he has also been pretty pedestrian at times. And while it is great to have a tough as nails QB who can pick up that third down Stockton, at times, takes to his feet a little too quick. You can’t win em all. When winning close to 90% of em is disappointing somebody is doing something right.

Uh we won 2 natties three years ago. Top 5 finishes every year. Yeah totally passed him by.

El: I agree that it was a crazy call. However in the first place there is some doubt that they actually meant to run a play despite what Kirby supposedly said about 'analytics' (i didn't hear it). Also Chambliss was so hot at that point I feel like Ole Miss would have scored even had we punted.
As to the OP: Kirby's approach has been very successful. We lost a big game on a big stage to a team with a chip on its shoulder, a QB who was absolutely dealing and a defense that was playing salty. But it was a 12-2 season and an SEC championship too, and odds are UGa will be back in the mix next year. I think it's premature to start shoveling dirt on Kirby and UGa.

Ain’t nobody shoveling dirt on y’all.. Well nobody with a functioning frontal cortex..
But it’s totally in bounds to call out this epidemic of “analytics” superseding actual intelligence in coaching decisions.
Be it this situation, not taking points, stupidly going for two… It’s a wide spread phenomenon.
Sorry to have to shite on Kirby in making my point, we can’t beat the bastard, so what do I know…

He was way too conservative in the 1st half of that game.
Posted on 1/2/26 at 2:24 pm to John somers
Kirby doesn't call plays on offense but he may not have the skills to evaluate effective OCs

CoachGPT does what analytics tells him to do.
