BR has its charms. The food for one. A large loving Catholic family for another. But it’s HOT, trafficky and has some seriously sketchy areas and ugly burbs. Ive had many opportunities to come back but Athens is really hard to beat.

Welcome. This board is a little slow sometimes and like most goes sideways occasionally. But it’s a decent place to access opinion and shared passion for UGa and UGa sports (especially football).
Tell us a little something about yourself! Im not a UGa grad, Im actually from Baton Rouge and my ENTIRE family is LSU alum.
My dad went to grad school here when i was in elementary school and UGa was my first sports love. My wife is UGa grad and Ive been living in five points two blocks from Butts Mehre since 1997. It’s a UGa fan and dirty old man’s fantasy come true and never gets old. You should see some of my neighbors.

My wife’s family lives in Seattle and I actually watched several UDub games while Eason started there, including one live at Husky stadium. Eason just did not have it between the ears. He was always a beat slow making reads and pulling the trigger. Despite his physical gifts there was always a ceiling with him. I think a couple of his best games as a collegian were as a true freshman when he was too inexperienced to know better and just cut loose. Contrast that to Bennett who pretty much always knew where to go with the ball and was decisive to the point of being a gunslinger.
I did not realize the original Terrapin folks were behind CC. Although Terrapin was first on the scene the key move for CC was getting that downtown facility up and running. That has become an anchor for downtown.
On a side note Normaltown brewery which used to be a hole in the wall in the chase street warehouse has been open on Barber St. in the old JJ's roaster. It is a really cool laid back scene, jazz on wednesdays. I ain't allowed to drink beer anymore but i assume the product is tolerable good.

I live in Athens and I'm downtown a lot when the kids are out. Even on weeknights it gets pretty crazy late, weekends are insane - it's kinda surreal. Just a few weeks ago there was pandemonium outside Dukes n Dotties, girl cuffed on the ground crying, people shoving and fighting. It's a hard town to police with all the alcohol, energy and such a large mixed crowd. When I say mixed you got frat kids, local project kids, country kids in town for the night, art school kids etc. It's a volatile mix. I see cops down there all the time and they actually do a pretty good job of ensuring safety, managing order, and not being too heavy handed about it. But there is always that one cop you cross at the wrong time...

That’s the spirit baby! Every year there is only one team that is going to finish exultant. Everybody else will be disappointed to heartbroken. UGa is going to continue to be competitive and should have at least a puncher’s chance every year. As a UGa fan living two blocks from Butts-Mehre that is pure nirvana.

As to the OP: Kirby's approach has been very successful. We lost a big game on a big stage to a team with a chip on its shoulder, a QB who was absolutely dealing and a defense that was playing salty. But it was a 12-2 season and an SEC championship too, and odds are UGa will be back in the mix next year. I think it's premature to start shoveling dirt on Kirby and UGa.

Yep Ole Miss had a lot of playmakers and they came through for them. It sucks and it hurts. And it hurts even more because we’re not used to it happening to us. Life goes on fellas. Work hard, do good, love your family cause life is short and this is just football. Have a good offseason and tune up that barking for next year cause UGa football aint going nowhere and Five Points Athens is still awesome.
