getting fired before coaching a single game has to put Mike Price on that list some sort of way.

8. Hal Mumme- almost killed the Kentucky program.

I mean, he got caught cheating because that was the only way to elevate the program in the SEC at the time (I'm side eying Tony Franklin's arse here). He absolutely produced before he got caught though.

5. Joker Philips- fitting nickname

Not nearly high enough. Only issue I have with Coach Brooks was pushing that hire. I wanted him to succeed as a Kentucky guy, but fricking woof.

That’s why gave him a mention. Has to be only coach to ever be fired for beating his arch rival, thus unintentionally becoming the architect of the Kiffin story arc.

I'd put Moorehead, Arnett and Lebby on the list before Croom.

3. Butch Jones- his record was somehow better than his coaching, still a clown
Not even close.

Butch could recruit. Couldn't do a lot with it after he got them...but he could recruit.

Butch won a couple of decent bowl games (Gator and Outback).

Jeremy Pruitt needs to replace Butch Jones on this list.

Ed showed what he could do at a superior program so you kind of have to consider the possibility that Ole Miss was dragging him down.

He was able to bring in some top talent. He just ran the team so poorly that everyone hated him. He brought absolutely no positivity or motivation ability to the players. Everything was a confrontation and he was ready to fight.

Houston Nutt, for all of his faults, said the best coaching job he did at Ole Miss was get the 2008 team to believe they were good players because they were so beaten down by the previous staff.

Ed learned a lot from his Ole Miss stint and I think he would tell you as much. I think it's why he was so successful as an interim.

AU could fill half this list on their own.

And UF can complete it.

It's a good list...don't get me wrong...but I don't think the list is complete without Jeremy Pruitt...and he should be somewhere near the top. For bad Tennessee coaches, he's 2nd on my list behind Jones.

Tennessee has played football for 121 seasons. In those seasons, they have lost:

8 games 1 time - 2017 under Butch Jones.
7 or more games 9 times - 2x under Jones, 2x under Pruitt, 3x under Dooley. So, of the 9 worst seasons in the history of UT football, 7 were either under Jones, Pruitt or Dooley. That's just considering overall record.

When you go to conference records, Tennessee has lost 6 or more conference games 7 times. 2x under Jones, 2x under Pruitt 2x under Dooley. Tennessee has gone winless in conference 2 times. 1924 in the Southern Conference under Mark Banks and 2017 under Butch Jones.

To have had Dooley, Jones and Pruitt all in a row...that's the trifecta of horrible coaching hires.

If Derek Dooley's last name was Smith or Jones, he couldn't have gotten in the stadium without a ticket.

What about 2020 under Pruitt? Didn't we go 3-7 ...losing all 7 conference games?

Pruitt lost to Georgia State in Neyland.

Our list should read:

PRUITT

Dooley
Jones

For these reasons, from the Aggies fans' perspective, yea, John L Smith should be on this list. His 2012 Hogs team made me feel bad for Arky fans. In 2011, Arky was 11-2, 6-2 in SEC, and 5th ranked team in the country. In 2012, under John L Smith, Arky season was 4-8, 2-6 in SEC.

Petrino was striking tFear into everyone until he sexed his way out of his job. Sucks. Then just horrible hire after horrible hire.

Tennessee beat South Carolina, Missouri and Vanderbilt in 2020.

That being said...I have no problem with Pruitt being at the top of the list.

My bad. It is listed as 0-7 in 2020, but that is due to the forfeits.

They moved me to the nosebleeds in 2020 due to their 25% capacity.

I told them keep the tickets.

He won a NC. You can't put a coach on a top 10 worst list that won a NC, and put together arguably the best college football team to ever take the field in history.

Took a team on probation into November undefeated.

People look down on him because he was followed by Saban.

If he'd been followed by Dooley or Chad Morris, Gumps would be reminiscing about the good ole days under Shula

Shula's teams also lost five or six starters with season ending injuries, on top of the scholly reductions.

We had several walk-on's starting before those injuries happened.
