How many guys were on this Georgia team that were on the 2017 team.

I believe 6, if my recollection is correct.

But really, 40 years aint THAT long and a bunch of you teenagers will understand that when you actually experience the years flying by.

And believe me. They do fly by. I was working in my career in 1980.

I suspect the joke is fun for FL and TN since they have (or had) more recent Natties, but in all honesty, a National Championship is pretty rare- there are probably only 25 or so schools that have won even one in the last hundred yea
Most fan bases have used the joke on us. It's okay. While I won't become a total jerk, I will remind people we won this year.

Your 1939 "title" is about as authentic as your "20--" trophy.

They were rolling in 1989 with Reggie Cobb and Chuck Webb and Andy Kelley and blew out Arkie in the Cotton Bowl that year. They went on to win all through the 90s including their last natty. I still struggle to see how consistently bad they have been.
The Vols fortunes have always depended on how well they recruit the state of Georgia. In the 1990s they cleaned house, and that is why they were so good back then. These days they don't get so many 4 and 5 stars out of there.

Just think of the mileage we'll be getting out of this, next year.

Meh. It was fun to get under UGA fans thin skin and we all got many years of schadenfreude enjoyment but all good things eventually come to an end. They are no longer college footballs greatest underachievers. So we’ll have to come up with something new.

The state of Georgia produces so much talent that this will always be the case. UGA can't take them all just like UF can't. And while it's true that we've had a ton of success with Georgia kids we've never relied solely on one area. Heavily, yes but not solely.

Unlike most teams, we've always recruited nationally. We had to because until very recently TN HS football just didn't produce the numbers (sure it produce All time greats like Reggie White and Al Wilson but the number of blue chips in any one recruiting cycle was much lower than it should've been). And unlike most teams we're pretty well positioned for most of the population (it blows folk's minds sometimes but Cincinnati and Atlanta are both the same distance away for us). Prospects from Ohio or Georgia can also be closer to UT than a similar prospect from the state of TN (not just the Memphis kids).

5*s are rare period but we still get a similar amount of 4*s from Georgia as we did prior. TBH, UGA and UT recruit different areas in Georgia. UGA is getting first pick with 90 percent but that's for a lot of reasons.

We only had that after Richt came. He had some limitations that brought us close to an NC, but not over the hump. Kirby gave us that extra push.

Well we are only 17 years away from the 100 year anniversary of 1939.

Something for A&M to look forward to.
