this from a bama fan. i guess you think saban wasn't paying those players?
We have all been paying players long before NIL. Texas, Bama, LSU, Oklahoma, all of us.
It's just out in the open now. I hate nil and the wide open transfer portal, but it's going nowhere.

$1 million dollar softball players. $5 million dollar football players. You have to the love the purity of college sports. There is nothing like watching amateurs competing for the love of the game.
Yep, it all started out with Dodge Chargers.
Now look how far it's gone.

If schools want to do this, more power to them, I sure hope LSU doesn't.
NIL money needs to go to big 3 men's sports. There, I said it.

Tech's softball head coach has been under fire with the League's other head coaches, for violations of the protocols To the extent he had several players from other schools on campus while they were still enrolled in their current schools. As of this week, several League, and other leagues'. are now refusing to play Tech anymore.

Yeah, I don't think a lot of LSU fans give a damn.

Tech is just freeze dried LSU. Add water and you'll never know the difference.

Tech throws a bunch of money around yet can never win anything. Sounds more like Aggie than LSU.

Everyone was for NIL until they got outbid. Tech is throwing its money around and getting the best players. Get in the game or get left behind. This is the new normal
No, everyone was not for it. It was the Aggies and the Tigers and the Red Raiders of the world who were. They thought “finally, we can be competitive”. Many fans of successful athletic programs were against it. Now it is all about who has the richest and dumbest boosters.
I do find it interesting that in a thread primarily about Texas Tech and an out of control portal, most LSU fans immediately made it all about Alabama.
I believe most LSU fans see Alabama everyone they look. Alabama is the boogie man that lives under their bed. I thought Saban retiring would begin the healing, but if anything they seem even less well.

If they’re really paying her $1M, then it’s a no brainer decision to go. Her earnings potential as a softball player or as a professional in her career field don’t come close to the value of the $1M. If she keeps $300k as play money, then drops $700K in the market earning just 10%, in 30 years that $700K is over $12M. I don’t blame her one bit for taking the payday.
After taxes and agent fees she is probably getting 500K which is still a nice chunk but not generational wealth.

Friend, programs have been paying players since before Chargers existed.
