In a world full of prominent people & leaders who offer nothing but vitriol and an interest in the next scam to make themselves even more wealthy, she gave her money and time to try to improve the lives of people she would never meet. We desperatly need more people like her.

Hate to hear it. She faithfully used her celebrity status to lift others up. Need more of that these days.

For the older baws here, how does this compare to the passing of Elvis?

Both major icons of their day

I don't think anyone will celebrate this. Genuinely regarded as one of the best humans. My wife is distraught.

Someone I have enjoyed watching and listening to my whole life. Rest in peace to her. She was such an original, with a big heart, who never forgot where she was raised. The world would be a better place if there were more Dolly Partons around...

I was 14 when Elvis died. Totally different dynamic when Elvis died. Elvis was the bigger star. Dolly to her credit was a gifted song writer as well and was ok with other singers benefitting from it. Dolly was just as gifted a businesswoman too. Much wealthier than Elvis.
