He was higher ranked than that when he coached Sunbelt perennial loser UL-Breaux Bridge School of the Mindless.

What makes Lincoln better?

He can lose to a non-P5 team with a Heisman winner at QB.

Duh!

Lincoln Riley at 7

Norvell should be top 15 imo.

Not bashing Kelly, but 6 seems high for what he's accomplished.

All time wins among active HC’s.

1. Nick Saban
2. Mack Brown
3. Brian Kelly

Not saying he should be like 2 on this list but 6 is more than fair. He’s a very accomplished coach. The only thing he’s missing is a national title. That’s why he came to LSU.

Alex Golesh was Tennessee’s OC last year

Kirby has surpassed Saban at this current point in time. Saban is the goat but he’s not the best in the business currently.

I don’t understand Fisher being top 15. He really hasn’t done shite since 2020 and it’s almost entirely his fault. The players are there.

I think Stoops should be higher. Consistently does more with less than anyone in the country. If you can consistently go 8-4 or better at Kentucky you’re a hell of a coach.

I would wait another season on Heupel or Beamer.

A name I would look out for is Mike Elko. He did an excellent job as DC at ND, Texas A&M and he turned around duke in a year as HC with almost the same players (very little portal turnaround).

Probably low, actually.

IIRC, Saban, Kirby, Dabo, Jimbo, and Mack Brown are the only active coaches with national championships right now. I'd comfortably say Kelly is a better coach in 2023 than Jimbo, Dabo, or Mack despite their past accomplishments.

Saban and Kirby are the only ones who I'd say are definitely better than Kelly right now. Maybe Harbaugh too considering his Stanford years and what he has done the last two years at Michigan, but that one could go either way. Kelly is a brilliant tactician and he's going to be dangerous now that he has access to a caliber of athlete that he simply didn't have at Notre Dame or Cincinnati.

Also, Fickell at 8 is too low. I'd put him at 5 behind Saban, Kirby, Kelly, and Harbaugh.

A few others that stuck out:

Matt Campbell at 43 is ludicrous. I know the luster has worn off a bit, and he probably should have taken another job a few years ago, but there are not 42 head coaches in the country better than him.

Mike Elko will be a hell of a lot higher than 44 when this list comes out next year and he has a bigger job than Duke.

Mel Tucker over Pat Fitzgerald

Mike Norvell will be higher than 24 when this comes out next year unless Florida State completely falls on their faces this season. I guess that's possible, and Jordan Travis getting injured should be a real concern for them, but I expect that team to steamroll through the ACC, and yes that includes Clemson.

11 is too high for Sonny Dykes. I believe last year was an absolutely perfect storm for TCU and that doesn't reflect what kind of coach he is. I don't hold his Cal years against him because it was such a bad cultural fit.

Huepel should be in the upper teens not 10. He’s only been a P5 head coach a couple of years and hasn’t really shown any tangible success. Improvement absolutely but not success

I think Kelly is a great coach.
I honestly do. He has all of the qualities you look for in a CEO and face of a program.

That said... he's lost a lot of bowl games (and his CCG) to be considered a great tactician.

You really think he should've beat undefeated Georgia in the first year of a rebuild?

They were picked to go 6-6.

Josh Pate had a great segment about resetting expectations for casuals like you.

The guy who said Kirby can't be considered a great coach solely because of losing to Butch Jones in year 1.

That game was won on a Hail Mary and butch jones literally dropped to his knees and started sobbing on our field. We had to re-sod it.

When a UF fan takes the UGA side on anything, it's worth noting. I have updated my spreadsheet. It's on the deeprig9 sharepoint site. MetroAtlantaGatorFan has dropped out of the top ten "People to Kill" list.
