You really think he should've beat undefeated Georgia in the first year of a rebuild?

Ummm he's been coaching as long as Saban.

There is a lot of evidence of how well he develops a gameplan with extra time.

I think he's .500 in bowl games.

He's .571

Nick Saban, the GOAT is .633

Lincoln Riley is .200

Josh Pate had a great segment about resetting expectations for casuals like you.

I was responding to a statement as a great tactician.

My evidence is a 7-5 record in bowl season.

Old Brent was the most sought after assistant coach in college football for a decade and now my man is #42.

I mean Saban is the one who said he's a great tactician.

But I'm sure you know more than Nick.

While you are quoting nick, I'd love to see the quotes where he is crapping on opposing coaches.

You know... for comparison.

I know Saban isn't going to say how he truly feels about an in divisional rival coach.

If you disagree, let me know why

You think Saban talks crap about Ms Terry in off record conversations? You know... with no press around?
Because he's nick Saban. What could possibly go wrong?

Well now you're getting off into the weeds.

.571 in bowl games is pretty damn good, a casual like yourself wouldn't understand it but it is what it is.

I can be called a casual college football fan.

I'm absolutely not a casual UGA fan.

I wouldn't call.571 win percentage in bowl games an elite tactician.
I could allow pretty good tactician.
On the upper level of mediocre.

Kirby smart is 8-2 in bowl games (.800).
Mark richt was .588 in bowl games (including his 1-2 stint with miami).

Was mark richt an elite tactician?
Give him a month to prepare, is that elite?

I wouldn't either, in a vacuum.

However, the term "tactician" does not simply apply to bowl games.

The meaning of the word:

quote:

a person who uses a carefully planned strategy to achieve a specific end.

Kelly has built and then elevated every program he's taken over in a very calculated and methodical way so I'd say he fits that definition.

Saban seems to agree.

I would say Bear Bryant was a great tactician as well and his bowl winning percentage was only .552

You know what, I'm going to totally disagree with you here.

Brian Kelly had Notre Dame playing way above their talent level, so they ended up in some bowls they had no business being in.
I don't care how great your tactical moves are, if you face a Saban Bama team for a national title, your players can't physically compete with theirs, and they are extremely motivated, there's nothing you can do but lose.

That's why he left ND and came to LSU. It's not about trying to rebuild another program, it's about having the talent to line up and play anyone- Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State etc, in the biggest game, and not be overwhelmed physically.

What he did at ND and Cincy was to get them to punch above their weight class. Him coming to LSU is kinda similar to Saban's trip to the NFL- what can he do at THIS level?
