I’m all for a guy advancing and it seemed like a fair article. I just think Scott thinking he doesn’t have anything to learn about ST is interesting. Maybe he has learned the nuances of the role in his time as SC coach? My nephew is working his way through the ranks in college coaching now and it’s a tough business. I have nothing negative to say here other than Scott is a little douchey but he had a successful run at Bama.

Whether its football, business, or whatever people often think they are ready to advance and expect to take that next step but others around them and above them don't necessarily see it that way. Sounds like Saban laid out a path to an on the field job but Cochran didn't want to take it and wanted it now. No one is right or wrong. Scott felt like he was ready and Nick didn't see it that way. Cochran has been a huge asset and a key contributor to Bama's success so i wish him luck.

I thought Bama fans didn't care if Cochran left with him personally tearing ACL's to your LB corp.

Butt-hurt is all I see...we will happily take him. Thanks for the good get.

Can see it both ways tbh.

On one hand this is a position at Bama not more Arkansas Pine bluff so I can see why he didn't get it.

On the other hand could the Bama kickers really get any worse? I wouldn't want to go to multiple meetings to learn from a special teams coaching staff that specializes in choking big kicks away either

Jeff Banks is actually a really good coach (he even won Special Teams Coach of the Year in 2018) and recruiter. So there was no reason for Saban to fire/demote/move Banks and replace him with a S&C coach who has no experience as an on-field coach, let alone as a Special Teams coach.

One day, I hope I get a chance to be sick of a job that pays me 500k per year. Some people severely overvalue their worth.

ETA:

When you break the problem down to its basic form, Cochran managed an exercise program for 19-22 year old kids that play rec ball.

Too bad Sabah clearly doesn't.
If you say so. Article clearly indicates otherwise, but that's reading comprehension for you.

I still think Cochran was low key coaching them up. "Yeah, yeah, yeah...MISS!"

I don't think saying "horrible look" is shitting in a thread. It's my opinion.

Perhaps you are just sensitive.

Hell, I work in IT and I've been in IT for decades. That doesn't mean my boss is obligated to give me a job writing code when I've been doing network engineering and server administration my entire life. He would, understandably, insist that I learn how to do it first. From people who know how.

Little off base with this comparison. Coaching football and special teams isn’t as far a cry from being a S&C coach for 12 years at the same program as it is working in IT and wanting to code. This has nothing to do with Cochran’s lack of qualifications and everything to do with 1. Cochran wanting to do something different and 2. Saban not feeling comfortable with giving him that start at Bama. So, Saban gave him the same pitch he gives every high 3 star/low 4 star. He slow played him, told him to work on himself first and then maybe they could talk later. Cochran rightfully looked at other, more immediate opportunities.

We can all agree Bama isn’t screwed and Georgia is going to be fine. There doesn’t have to be a defined winner/loser here.

Well, when you’re qualified enough to work for 12 years at a job the marketplace deems worthy of a $500k salary, let us know. Given that he took a pay cut to come to UGA, I’d say it has less to do with overvaluing himself and more to do with simply making a career change.

That is just a really, really dumb way of looking at it given that if you break it down, our entire interaction on this message board is just quibbling over immaterial nonsense surrounding 19-22 year old kids playing rec ball on behalf of schools and regions we only care about because of geographic serendipity.

Cochran is a weight room guy, not a number crunching data analytics guys. Saban saw the move Orgeron and Moffit made by incorporating data measurement and analyst is in their approach. Cochran isn’t as amenable to change as Moffit. Just a personality thing. If he wanted to get in the field, he should have been proactive and participated in group meetings , film study , and group practices to learn the nuances of a niche group. Let’s see how Georgia specials teams perform the next two years and use that as the measure of whether he made a good decision.

It's hard to believe he was a better troll when LSU lost 29-0 to Alabama compared to a year when LSU beat Alabama, went 15-0 and won a national title.

Now it's predictable and LSU fan is about the only one who jerks him off and tells him what an "elite" troll he is. The problem is that he believes them instead of realizing what a stale and unoriginal troll it has become.

Telling him he's regressed isn't melting.

Last year his Bama hate/Clemson nut ride act was new, different and it wasn't beat into the ground yet. A year later with LSU's successes it's just not original nor near as funny.

I don't dislike Willy. I'm just being honest.
