it is an idiotic design. Worst of the 'big six' stadiums in the SEC, only slightly edging out Tennessee.

Why? When you are on the field it feels like the stadium is right on top of you. There are great sightlines, it traps the noise and makes it one of the more intimidating venues in the country. It is a little different, but I think it's great.

I think that can be explained by the worlds worst receding hairline.

Nah, Sullivan rocked the swoop too. Just going to have to accept the swoop was brought to us by our southern forefathers

I sat on the wall in the visitor's section for the 2012 game. They are awesome seats. Then we got our asses kicked by Muschamp.

These photos are great. I know todays atheletes are faster and stronger than the guys in the black and white pictures, but every single man in those old pictures look like they could chew nails and spit tacks. Kinda like pictures from WW2. Those men were tough as hell.

Also in response to whoever mentioned Shorty Price's politics, he was once quoted as saying that the govenors term should be reduced from four years to two:

'If you can't steal enough to last you the rest of your life in two years, you ain't got enough sense to have the office in the first place,'

1895 Auburn Tigers football team (Coach John Heisman is in second row wearing glasses)

Auburn vs. Georgia at Piedmont Park 1895

1913 Auburn Tigers

Auburn game from 1915 at Drake Field (this was Auburn's stadium at that time. I have no idea who Auburn is playing)

Auburn @ Georgia Tech 1921

1957 Auburn Tigers during their national championship winning season. (I think they're playing Georgia Tech here)

Future Cliff Hare Stadium under construction sometime in the 30's)

Cliff Hare Stadium (guess this is in the 1940's)

Cliff Hare Stadium (1950)

Jordan-Hare (supposed to be from 1975)

Agree 100%. I absolutely LOVE the Swamp, and it's one of the loudest stadiums anywhere. Those walls are unusual and they do contribute to the unique status of Ben-Hill Griffin as an iconic college football stadium. I've been there many times and outside of Tiger Stadium, there's no other place I'd rather watch a game.

I have always wondered why Florida has those walls in their stadium.

One has to remember that UF built "Florida Field" as it was called originally in 1930s, by dredging 30 feet of earth almost straight down. Thats why when you walk into the Swamp your seats are normally downward from ground level. The stadium is built straight up from the ground and seats are on top of the field....making it even louder. Once the entire stadium was enclosed there was a noise and energy present that other schools didnt have. We had visitors on east side on stadium to wilt in the sunlight.
Stadium was renamed Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in honor of a wealthy citrus grower who donated a lot of money to UF in early 1980s. Our facilities were awful until then...Coach Charley Pell was the first HC who stirred the pot and demanded that boosters dig deep and help the athletic dept.
