re: Who here was rocking an $11,000 laptop in 1989?
Posted by alphaandomega on 3/21/25 at 4:41 pm
My father bought our company its first computer in January 1984 for about $15,000. It replaced an NCR punch card machine that was around $22k.
I was finishing high school but I remember it.
He later bought an additional 10mb hard drive for another $5k.

re: Another Trumpian statistic? Amount of murderers illegally in this country.
Posted by alphaandomega on 3/21/25 at 2:42 pm
Dont care. I want every single illegal out of the country. If someone truly has an asylum claim they should be housed somewhere remote. Like the desert of Arizona.
But most asylum seekers arent here because of death threats etc. They want benefits, free stuff etc. and use asylum as an excuse to stay here.
They can have that free stuff in a tent in Arizona or they can return to their home country. They can decide.

Pretty much true, everyone hates California and Washington but they basically pay for these states.
But if you look at literacy rates of California and Washington those states have kids just as unprepared as the rural ones.
There is a huge disconnect and what we are doing now isnt working. Parents are the reason most kids are ignorant. They dont expect their kids to do well, just stay in school, and when you are 18 you can get on welfare.
I dont know how to fix it but maybe incentivize the parents if the kids do well.

Every gun law on the books is unconstitutional. They are all an infringement.
The only gun law I would support is one that requires every citizen to own one.

re: The Department of Education has been around for about 45 years

The one statement that reinforces the need to abolish it is the fact that not a single metric across the board has improved.
Test scores are lower, reading comprehension is less.
Money needs to be sent to the state and the voters of that state can hold their people accountable. How are we supposed to hold the DOE accountable for anything. They are just the giant behemoth that sucks up money and then gives back 25% for students.

Trump needs to tell judge the document is classified top secret. Judge should be told it is eyes only and not for any clerk or underling.
Tag information in it that if it shows up in media then he was the leaker and should be arrested, tried, and if convicted put in prison.

Maybe it was built before the pyramids. And the pyramids are a marker for where they are?
This seems like it should be a TPA thread…

Someone needs to check the books out then burn them and tell library that they were stolen.

At this point I really don't see this as a "war" per se.
Economic sanctions will have an effect. They were during W Bushes administration then Obama sent them planeloads of case, then trump gets in and shuts down their economy again.
Then PedoJoe starts sending them more cash and they start doing terrorist things again.
Shut down their economy. Many of their citizens despise the mullahs and want to return to a more western country that they were in the 60's and 70's. If you make it uncomfortable enough maybe they would rise up and get rid of the ayatollah.
Islam is the problem with almost all the worlds problems.

He and I would see how strong that hair is. I wonder if you could strangle someone to death with hair?
Id certainly give it a try. If not a barb wire enema would do the trick.

Does not compute
Was sitting around the campfire at the farm a few years back and a friends Granddad was there. He was probably 90 years old, my friend was about 60... The old man rarely talked.
One of the young guys, in their 20's asks another guy about a girl he had just started dating and he replied that she "was a good girl".
To that my friends grandfather replied "a good girl will put it back in for you", while never taking his eyes off the fire.
It got real quiet then every one just laughed. Never expected him to just pop into the conversation with that.

Maybe y’all could start doing a little low key catering on the side to raise funds for your mission.
We do some stuff like that. We have also sold butts for Independence day and smoked turkeys for Thanksgiving.
We have another donor that wants to buy us a second mobile kitchen. We re getting prices for that now. If that works out it will setup 30-60 miles from the main unit and we will shuttle supplies to them as needed from the main trailers. The new trailer will be about half the size but still able to provide 600-800 meals, twice a day.
We try to setup in "smaller" towns that sometimes get overlooked by the big guys (Mercy Chefs, Red Cross etc). We have increased our capabilities from 600 meals at a time to about 1000, twice a day. Streamlined how we pack and handle the supplies helped with that.
WIthout donors of all sizes this would never have been possible, so to anyone on here that has ever donated we truly appreciate it.
