Paul Dietzel's first game back at Tiger Stadium (1966) coaching South Carolina. McClendon and the Tigers won the contest that included a birthday cake being confiscated, bomb threats and FBI escorts/guards on the USC charter plane.

This is a very good thread with lots of cool pics!!!
It appears Bear Bryant was always willing to shake hands and take a picture with opposing mascots/cheerleaders. Pretty neat.

I have always wondered why Florida has those walls in their stadium.

Don't have anything to add except for how awesome this thread is. Shows that even through all of the pissing match rivalry bs we have going now that all of these programs have rich tradition.

Me too. Pretty interesting design at the time, but didn't leave a lot of options for expansion.
But they made it work

Stadium at Shield Watkins Field (eventually Neyland Stadium) under construction - 1921
Shield Watkins Field 1948
Neyland Stadium 1972-75
Sometime in the 1920's...Kentucky at Tennessee

I don't know for certain, but if I had to guess it had to do with viewing angles. In the long run it keeps capacity a little lower, but they are some great seats even though they're in the corner.

it is an idiotic design. Worst of the 'big six' stadiums in the SEC, only slightly edging out Tennessee.
