Either our network for "buying players" via the REC is unreal or high school players just happen to prefer playing for a school that they has been to the college football playoff 6 of the 7 years it has existed. They also may be intrigued by the fact that a huge number of the current head coach's players have been drafted in the first 3 rounds of the NFL draft.
In other words, Alabama didn't pass on Gilbert because he wasn't an outstanding tight end prospect. They probably did so because they currently have a freakish tight end/wide receiver hybrid (Billingsley) which means tight end isn't a priority for Alabama

I have multiple freaking neighbors that would send a 400k check to the REC overnight if it was needed to secure a player of the century guy. There ability to buy players in second to none.
Their network is unreal, and my old man, who was a bag man for an SEC school, used to say it is a waste of time to go after a player they want. They have twice as many recruiters as everyone else in the SEC combined. Even the OBC remarked he could never get a player against bama as their scholarship must have been worth more.
Yet, they let Georgia have him for 400k??? Chump change now. Plus Sabans goal in life is to frick LSU at every chance as it weakens a threat and strengthens his hand. They maybe win one Natty without all the paid Louisiana players.
Yet they pass on the TE of the century......
What?! How would you know that for sure? Maybe UGA bagman was the key to getting him to Georgia? Also Nick Saban doesn't need this TE and he just got the receiver from portal that was at OSU! I thought I saw someone posted that Alabama have too many players on the roster and need to cut some more players down. That is another reason not to add this TE from the portal and let UGA get him. No way UGA will be the one to get one of the 4 playoff spot that Alabama will not be one of the 4 in the playoff. So This is a win-win for Alabama!
