The sections on the near end there aren’t even facing the field. I guess that’s where they’ll put the visitors

Neyland is hard for a lot of people because Tennessee has been down for so long. When they are good and playing a big game that place is deafening.

This is accurate. In the mid 2000s and prior, it was very loud there. One of the loudest games I've ever been to was the UT/Florida game in 2004.

Aggie, it took SEC $$$ to help get you there. Just a few years ago you had wheelbarrows under the lower stand and your visitors locker room was 900 sq ft and dated back to the 60’s.

The SEC move contributed, for sure, but it was program excitement and success that opened the donor's pocketbooks. It's the house that Johnny built.

A word of note… within say 4-5 hours of each other there are 7 stadiums that seat 85 plus (Bama, Auburn, UGA, South Carolina, Knoxville and Florida). Even our smaller brothers have outstanding venues and sell outs. Oxford, Starkville, Lexington are great venues to attend and can get very loud. You do not know what’s in store. IT JUST MEANS MORE!

I went to the Bama-OU game in Norman in 2002 or 2003, and the atmosphere wasn't that much different than most of the SEC atmospheres.

That was also two renovations ago. The stadium has a very different feel now.

Our program got very complacent in the ‘90s and by the time we played Alabama we hadn’t made any significant improvements since the ‘70s.

I would agree with some that our fans do sit on their hands a bit too much.

If I recall yall have some major plans but had to cut back because there wasn't enough demand and money?

Yes we cut back on the west side improvements (rebuild of upper deck and press box) as well as north side improvements with an upper concourse.

I believe that had to do with cratering oil prices at the time.

It didn’t really have to do with demand as the changes were not going to alter capacity much at all.

There are 4 SEC stadiums with capacities in excess of 100k (LSU, Alabama, Tennessee, A&M) and four more with 80k+. And these are in some of the smaller states in the country, some even supprting multiple P5 schools. There's something to be said about that. I also don't think it's just an SEC thing. FSU seats about 80k. Clemson sits about 80k. I'll put it to you this way, there are 23 football stadiums at all levels in this country that sit 80k people, and 10 of them are in the southeast united states.

I will give the Big10 some credit too. Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State and the three largest stadiums in the country, and Wisconsin also sits 80k+, and all of those states have NFL teams as well.

Based on capacity, niceness, noise level, concessions, all of the above?

State has a nice new stadium with 2 huge Jumbotrond and a top 5 atmosphere/noise in the conference but it only holds 64k and concessions could be better.

LSU Bama and A&M are probably the best

Georgia, Auburn, Florida tier 2

Arkansas, State, Ole Miss, USCe tier 3

Rest are either terrible atmospheres or a complete dump even if it holds a large crowd (Tennessee)

I think South Carolina is too low on this list. Game day atmosphere is ridiculous when the team is competitive. Williams Brice is a great stadium with a cool look and the fans are lit. We lead the SEC in fan ejections! The upper deck actually sways when the place gets wound up. See Greg McCleroys(sp) comment about his experience there. I specifically remember when #6 SC beat #5 Georgia 35-7. That place was fn insane

Haven’t been to Williams Brice in years but when Carolina was winning that place was wild, went during the Spurrier years vs Tebow and Uf

I'd say 7-13 is interchangeable depending on circumstances.
