I will admit that it irritates me. I spent 3 years of my life in that shithole town busting my arse for a degree. It has benefited me. I made friends. The same people I went to school with (good people) wouldn't spend the majority of their time trying to shite on LSU like you losers.

This much is true. I've lived half my life in Alabama. You should try it. Wait for one of the brief periods when Auburn has the stronger program. You'll notice a marked difference in the number of Alabama vs. Auburn license plates, bumper stickers, etc. It happens almost overnight.

That’s just the barners feeling full of themselves.

Avoiding the trolling

Yeah, I'd assume Alabama has the biggest bandwagon group among SEC teams. It's not people who live close enough to go to games, it's going to be spread nationally amongst people who simply want to root for the favorite (they pick a team that wins, so they are happy because "their" team won).

In Louisiana, I see a fair amount of "Alabama" fans who probably couldn't find the campus on the map, and wear their gear simply because Saban was winning there.
I think there's an added contingent here in La of "anti-LSU" fans; Tulane, ULL, and others, who latched onto Alabama because they've beat LSU.

Quite a few of those here. Seems like many of the Alabama posters on this board live in Louisiana.

In fairness, any school that has the success that Alabama has had will have large numbers of sidewalk fans. In MLB, tons of people love the NY Yankees that are not New Yorkers...college football Alabama and ND, NFL New England Patriots (It used to be Green Bay), NBA LA Lakers and so on and so on.

I'm not sure what is so bad about sidewalk fans, anyway, or why people look down on them. They bring in money by watching their games, buying their merchandise and going to the games.

I say...the more the merrier, personally.

People are naturally drawn to winners.

What a bizarre way to try to insult someone. “You guys have won so much you have attracted the most fans!!!” What a zinger.

I actually agree with you.

During the mid to late Saban era...

Here in OKC metro... I'd say outside of Texas and then maybe Arkansas... you saw more people repping Bama than any other out of state school.

Bama has a large amount of bandwagon fans.

I would put Miami in that category.

And this is what annoys me even more. I was a Saints and a Braves fan long before it was cool. Back when both of them were bottom dwellers. Most Bama fans are just a bunch of front running phaggots with no ties to the university. They were nowhere to be found when I was in school there.

I would have guessed
3. Texas

The Texas schools don’t have a lot of sidewalk fans. When I graduated, I took a job as a project engineer in a refinery in Texas and was amazed that none of the non-engineering employees kept up with college football. It was just the Cowboys and Oilers. My first Fall Saturday I had all my snack foods set up to watch the ABC game only to discover that the first 30 minutes was being preempted by a local high school trivia contest being broadcasted on the local affiliate. That same season one of the local news stations conducted a survey on your favorite type of football. Only 6% stated “college football”. The remainder was split pretty evenly between pro and high school football. That was still when the SWC existing. College football got more popular there after Texas won the national championship with Vince Young.

Seems like Miami is a school with fans who aren’t students/alumni
