Can we at least be honest and admit that 8 conference games means a couple more teams scrape by into a bowl game every year.
It boost the perception for teams trying to get into the playoffs and more importantly the next years rankings that team “x” beat this many bowl teams last year. This is purely a move to help the bottom 3rd of the teams to keep bowl eligibility and protect an additional home gate every other year.
From a competitiveness or value to the fan perspective an 8 game schedule is a disservice.
The real issue needs to be at what point does this sway enough of the fence sitting members of the AP poll to discount the SEC teams rankings. It has slowly become a media talking point how the SEC has games rankings and bowl matchups to great effect, and now it is probably going to get much worse.
I’ve been fairly supportive of most of the moves made over the years in scheduling and expansion, but to me this seems to be a major mistake. Hopefully this is only a short term approach to all teams that are cheap not to have to take the hit to drop teams from their future schedules.

With a 12 team playoff there is NO REASON not to play a 9 game schedule.
Teams with 2 losses from an elite program like UGA, Bama, Ohio State and LSU can probably still make a 12 team playoff if they have a good team and maybe play well but lose a close game or two.
With a 12 team playoff, Saban comes off like a petty whiny bitch to vote against a 9 game schedule.

Sway against SEC in rankings?
Tell me again how many times has an SEC team won the Natty in last 15yrs?
3/4 of the top 4 teams in college football reside in the SEC.

quote:You should be. At some point, you would think that the beancounters in your AD would realize that having an annual game with Texas for your final game, as opposed to Black Friday against Missouri, will mean more to the bottom line than a 6-6 season that ends with a trip to Shreveport. Arkansas really needs to be on the other side of this vote.
I’m honestly very disappointed that we aren’t on that list.
But, take heart. At least there is some kind of logic behind Arkansas's decision, even if it is faulty. Someone please explain to me why on earth Auburn would not be on the side of 9? After all these years of bitching about not getting to play their natural rivals, now, it seems, they are not really interested in that after all.

You know that game isn’t going away even if we play 10 conference games.
I would be okay with just one of them per year. Last year we had Sam Houston St early in the season and U Mass 2nd to last game. That’s 2.
I can go back but we all have a couple every year and of course they are always at home. And you have to buy those shitty games as part of a season ticket package. One of them is plenty.

As a fan there are usually 1 or 2 OOC games that suck arse. Spread is 35+. Get rid of one of these and play another conference game.
Bruh, if you believe that is the game they will drop I have some ocean front property in Lubbock you will love.

What’s the point of having a conference if you don’t play the teams in the conference regularly?
Hell, A&M has played Clemson more often than Georgia since we joined the SEC.

With no due respect to that blathering excuse, just shut up.
Alabama is so used to having built-in advantages…it’s disgusting.
LSU also views the game as an awesome game, just like the Florida game.
Whether you want to admit it or not, it’s been the single best game in the SEC over the last 15 years.

It was probably scheduling issues that Arkansas has been dealing with that is complicated.

Alabama, the official pussies of the SEC. Congratulations.
This is more shocking and disappointing than anything. It’s like John Wayne wussing out of a fight.

This is a lot of gnashing of teeth over a one year agreement. We will most likely end up at nine games.

Yes, but most people here aren’t smart enough to figure that out.

Having lived in Alabama for 2 years I can say you are full of shite! Anytime I wore my LSU hat out in public everybody I ran into wanted to talk LSU/Bama game

Perception is reality. It’s a terrible look no matter how many times you want to deny it.

The issue I hear is people use those games to take their family due to being cheaper.
Then the others complain about it being a "rent-a-win".

Pretty sure the President or AD, not the HC, would be the one that votes
