Coach Saban has called every team in the West a rival. A divisional rival. Nothing historical about the swamplands.
Alabama is important to my generation because Saban was our coach. I'm assuming it is important to Saban as well. He has said so. Anybody from ages 25 - 45 probably feels the same. We don't care about the 60's through 80's.

Why would you assume that is how coach Saban feels when LSU is the one that BAMA wants to go away as a permanent rival?

I really do believe Alabama deserves all the fault here.

So you are in favor of just giving ESPN that 9th game for free?

No, but Saban has talked about who he has scheduled OOC in the upcoming seasons and not being happy with his three perms in a 9 team.

So you disagree with Coach Saban's reason for wanting 8 games?

But you believe in your heart of hearts that the SEC not just giving ESPN that 9th game absolutely free is the right thing to do?

It should be 10 conference games a year at minimum

If only there were a season to look at that had 10 conference games, and judge how teams did that year....

Saban called the LSU game a rivalry. Blame him

I think one of the dumbest things I hear in sports "not a real rival"

Why are people so uppity over who their rival is? Most programs have multiple rivals whether they wanna believe it or not.

Unless 1 of the games each year is a neutral site game, I can never support the 9 game schedule. The inherent advantage/disadvantage of some teams having 4 conference home games and 5 away vs teams with 5 conference home games and 4 away is too much for me to endorse.

I went to a little school and I know how important the money games are for their programs. I'll be glad for every year we play them.

I also have faith in HY. If he thinks 9 is bad for the program, then 9 is bad for the program. He's not a pussy. He's not a coward. He's not a Bama Follower. There's stuff that goes on behind the scenes that you and I have no knowledge of.

Well, thankfully, this thread is about schedules.

I concur from our point of view, in my opinion. Don't give a shite that one of our annual games is also a P5 in our rival. Give me a 9-game conference schedule.

We are scheduled to play in the coming years

VT, Coastal, Miami(2x), ECU, App, UNC (x2), NC State, and Clemson in the next 7 years.

I get maybe some schools are afraid, but I like that we are scheduling teams outside the conference. Its more fun that way. We only have 6 open slots in those next 7 years. Mind you, for us to get out of those contracts could also be expensive, is the SEC going to pay for that if they change to a 9 game schedule?

Reasonable response.

I want to see the newly appointed SEC Big 5 put 2 Power-5 OOC games on that schedule in 2024. I don't see how the SEC Big 5 would want it any other way.

Honestly I'm indifferent. 8 games is better for UK generally speaking. My fear if we go to 9 is that we have to drop UofL. An extra SEC game would be cool, but not at the expense of the Governor's Cup.

The biggest issue I have is our current scheduling which has Texas A&M STILL having never set foot in Lexington, and won't until 2025. That's completely unacceptable for any conference scheduling. The 1-7 or 3-6 models both fix that so I guess for me it boils down to how the UofL game would be affected.

If we could keep the UofL game and play 9, have two cupcakes like EKU and WKU,that'd be the most ideal from a fan entertainment standpoint.

I don’t completely disagree and I don’t know what I don’t know as to why we didn’t sign on for 9. I think it’s weak though unless we start playing ASU(and other in-state or close schools that we can mutually benefit from playing) and keeping the money in-state/area. I loved playing UAPB and giving them a shot in the arm with some money. So, no disagreement, but would love to keep the money going to little schools that matter if that’s why. Otherwise, it’s a waste of a beautiful newly renovated stadium and higher ticket prices, IMO.

I think they are gonna have a hard time getting ESPN to give them more money right now because ESPN isn't making money.

I think sometimes you just do what's best for the fans.

I think your coach has said too much to simply say he's defending the SEC vs. ESPN.

I think they'll probably schedule the long standing rivalry games if they can in 2024 with the 8 game schedule and try to work out something with ESPN to go to a nine game in 2025.

We all know saban is a little bitch

This really cannot be overstated. He pushed for years for a 9 game conference schedule when it didn't matter, but as soon as it did, he showed what a little bitch he truly is.
