Scheduling in 16 team SEC

Seems pretty certain that they’re going to 9 conference games. But otherwise, I’ve seen remarkably little talk about this. Are they going to do the rotating pods that the 16 team WAC did? Are they going to abolish divisions altogether now that that’s allowed?
Dear God, I hope they don’t go to a system where you play one game every seven years against everybody in the other division other than the cross divisional rival. That’s actually even less often than opposite division teams play in the current system. (Albeit by only one less game every 42 years.)

I hear Kentucky gets UT, Vandy and Mizzou as permanent opponents with the other 5 games rotated. Not sure of anyone else.

If Georgia every year doesn't play Florida and Auburn and especially Tennessee (because they suck and it's always hilarious), personally I'll be pissed.

7 schools are firmly against playing 9 SEC games. The SEC decided how it is gonna schedule every other major sport (when we go to 16 teams) but could not agree on football scheduling. No use in deciding now as Texass and OU are not gonna be playing here until the 2025 season AND we may end up with more than 16 teams.

Schools against nine games:
a) Anyone with a permanent, OOC rivalry, and
b) Anyone that struggles to maintain a relevant program on a yearly basis.
That's over half of the conference, and as a result, the SEC will stick with eight games. The solution, of course, is relatively simple: four divisions of four teams.

If we go to 20 teams (Clemson, FSU, Miami, and Oklahoma State/UNC/Virginia Tech) everything changes.

9 conference games
3 permanent opponents
6 rotating through the other 12 teams meaning we'll play a home and home against every team in every 4 year stretch.

First time this a has been on a MB...... :
When I last talked toSankey it was 8 conference games ( to keep rankings high)
Weak OOC, double bye weeks,
No divisions, 1 annual set rival, rotate through rest of conference......
It gives the most interesting games and highest rankings and hence highest TV payout...

It will be interesting to see ESPN's take on scheduling. Nine game schedules gives them more inventory and may incentivize ESPN to up the payouts.
I wonder if Sankey has addressed that in the contract the SEC has with ESPN?
If instead of nine games each team was "encouraged" to schedule less FCS teams and more power 5 teams? I just have a feeling ESPN is going to have some input regarding this matter.

I think Ole Miss keeps Vandy and loses Arkansas….Although I’d rather drop Vandy and keep Arkansas….
Vandy is a sure W but they are so boring on an annual basis

Going to 9 SEC games gives ESPN-ABC LESS inventory not more. Plus it MIGHT threaten some premier OOC games.

Four 4 Team Pods. Followed by a four team playoff with the winner getting an automatic berth in the 8 team CFP.
