If Saban were an outspoken atheist, how do you think Alabama fans would handle it?

Like if he loudly talked about it all the time? Probably wouldn't sit very well. He'd also be one of if not the only college coach in America to be that way as far as I know.

Now, if he was atheist but didn't yell about it from the mountaintops? I don't think it would matter much.

The only coach in america that way? Are you fricking kidding me? There's a difference between being a neck beard athiest and saying "I have a lot of questions about the universe, and religion satisfies none of them for me personally"

Im sure there are plenty of coaches who aren't religious

The thing I like about Saban is he doesn't advertise his faith or his good-doings. He doesn't need constant validation in this department like others seem to need.

The true measure of your character is doing something good without the need for everyone to know.

I happen to know he attends the Catholic church on UA's campus every week and has donated significantly to it.
His donations to Nick's Kids and to the 2011 tornado victims are well-documented. But I also know for a fact that he's helped out a bunch of families financially from the tornadoes...many many more than was ever made known or is public.

He's a great coach with a reputation expecting perfection. But he's an even better human being.

Does anyone in this thread have a relationship with Jesus? Seems unlikely

I work with a Jesus, he's a nice guy. Wouldn't say we have a relationship though.

What’s your definition of a relationship?

I mean, we talk sometimes.

I sometimes wonder how many people who generally need public support to keep their jobs (politicians, college football coaches, business owners) pretend to be at least nominally Christian to avoid the possible repercussions of being an atheist.

I have a distant relative who owns a business here in the south. Very opinionated about nearly everything on Facebook. Fortunately for her, she's a hardcore Christian, Republican, and conservative so she's preaching to the choir most of the time. But if she were that opinionated with positions that go against the norm I think it would cause problems for her.

Most who profess a relationship with Jesus have little concept of his teachings.

He was a St Aloysius regular back in the day. Of course he’d show up right after mass started and left after communion as to not be disturbed.

He's a regular up at Lake Burton's boat church most of June and early July.Has a seat saved for em and arrives on his Pontoon boat.

Disgusting hypocrisy

Rohan, as a Catholic, what Coach Saban needs to do to keep from being a hypocrite is ...find a Catholic Nun’s hospital that specializes in treating cancer ridden children, and then steal and launder money from that church-connected hospital to pay for football recruits. That would make him a proper, non-hypocrite, practicing-Catholic, football coach wouldn’t you agree?

One of the few things I like about Nick is his faith. Unless you Protestants don’t know, he and his wife are hard core Catholics. Regardless of who LSU played, where or the outcome they showed up for mass at 900 AM. Nick is quiet and humble about his faith. They sat in the middle of the church (not up front for everyone to see or in the back to make a quick escape). He was extremely humble about it despite the fact that he was the most recognizable person in BR. He prayed like a pauper with everyday people and I will always respect him for it.

That or just get filthy rich on the backs and legs of poor black men. I’m sure all his former players, especially the washouts, appreciate his donations to the church on campus though. What’s the trade-in value on Chargers?

People with faith don’t normally need to tell you how strong their faith is.

None of this made sense or is applicable to Saban.
So are you projecting?

Maybe he has found new life in Christ. It does happen.

And he doesn't you coarse, uneducated little jackass. Most people here hang on everything or word "SABAN" but are surprised to find he is a man of real faith. Because it is personal, humbling and therefore real to him.
