Sounds kinda desperate to make this move. Pretty obvious that evaluation of HS kids is becoming less important to programs as the evaluation of transfers coming in has gotten . And what exactly is rivals going to do if the top QB in the country gives them the finger and he gets left off their ranking while he gets offers from every top program in the country? That kid doesn't need rivals.

But it is mostly for low ranked or unranked kids to get noticed. They are getting paid to be agents through their sites. But colleges that matter already know about every kid they want.

Good for them. If the kids are getting $5k to just visit a school, then flip the script and have the kids pay to be noticed.
It's going to screw over some kids, but they can blame their fellow high school athletes for putting their hands out just for visits.

So I guess they'll rate an athlete higher if he pays them 5k. Which mean rankings may mean nothing.

If Saban and Kirby were both fighting over a 3* that would always tell me a lot more than what some random dude who worked for 247 thought.

They aren't going to sign some average player that pays Rivals $500 to talk them up to big schools.

I don't think this will go over well. The five star guys aren't going to pay. Imagine a recruiting service with no evaluation on the top player in the country.

Considering that there are about 25,000 high schools in the US, that's a lot of scouts, even for a program that matters.

I wouldn't. Worked with a guy that sent all three daughters to travel-ball. Softball.
One got a scholarship at the local community college. Same place I sent my girl. Tuition was about $7500 a year. Dude paid for travel ball for three girls for about six years each. All chasing a scholarship.
At some point ... just put the money back in your pocket. You can't buy your kid onto the team.
